Anyone from Fire land been doing any work with the 300 WSM and 155's lately? If so, what are you liking for powders?

Thx

Dunno about 155's, but RL-17 works REAL well with 150 Ballistic Tips.

Well that is good to know because I have a bunch of both along with 168 Gr. Sierra HP's.

At one with the gun.

..............Just for the heck of it awhile back, I worked up to and dup`d a submitted load from another poster on the "reloaders nest" site. See the "rifle" section under 300 WSM and find load #5506.

That posted #5506 load is,,,,69 gr RL17; 155 gr Berger VLD @ 3380 fps from a 24" barrel. Part of his comments were "no pressure signs." Using that same load, I chrony`d on average 3234 fps out of my 16.5" barreled 300 WSM Ruger Frontier carbine, also without pressure signs and 1" groupings.

Either way, 3234 to 3380 fps MV for a 155 grainer is pretty good I`d say!!!

Smoke a 155/509 BC Lapau Scenar with that load and you will be duplicating the 264 Win Mag or 7mm Rem Mag.

Pretty versatile.

i'M loading for a friends moose hunt this fall. We found his browning shoots under moa the 168ttsx at 3130 fps over 65.5 re17.
Now we need some cheap practice loads. We're going to the range tommorrow with the 155 and 168 nosler j bullets seconds using the exact same charge and seating depth that works good on the ttsx. Will try and remember to report when done. Should be alot easier on the pocketbook plinking with $.15 cent bullets instead of $.80 a crack! Hope they shoot as well as 1.5" groups at 200 yds have been the norm with the ttsx.

155 Scenar out of a 300 WSM sounds like a fun combo if you have a place to let it run. 100yd ranges just aren't going to do that combo justice.

Got to the range...terribly windy today but somewhat protected by trees. The 155's didn't do good. The 168 j's did really well shooting sub 2" groups at 200 yds. Will probably just stick with this combo for my buddy to practice with.....BTW...wierd thing is that the J bullet went to an impact point abot 6" low at 200 yds as the ttsx....but good grouping.....just the "personality" diff I guess.

68 grains of RL17 in my 7.82 patriot with 150 TTSX's and 155 Bergers gave around 3350fps and 1/2" groups in my 24" barreled gun.

My 300 WSM really likes W760 with 150's. 68 grains gets me 3280 with E Tips with one hole accuracy & 3224 with Accubonds at 1 moa in a 24" tube.
