Just loaded up some 150-grain Sierra Game King BTSP's with 41 grains of Varget powder. It's my first experience with Varget in this chambering.

Any suggestions?

My best load was 140gr Barnes TSXs and 43.5gr of Varget in my LVSF....2850 and shot in the .2s and .3s enough that I didn't change a thing.

My 7-08 shoots 42.0 gns of Varget with Sierra's 100 grain bullet very well; 3 shots in a 1/2" group at 100 yards.
I made that load up, in addition to a 140 gn Partition, for varmint hunting. I use H-414 for the 140 gn NPT.
There's something about Varget that spells "accuracy" in every rifle I've tried it in. My 22-250 LOVES it. So does my 250 Savage.

Suggestions? Go shoot it and be happy. laugh

I use that load pushing a 140 gr Ballistic Tip. I shoot golf balls off of the target frame at 200 yards with it.

Gotta agree. If Varget is appropriate for the cartridge I'm loading, it's my first choice. I usually don't need to look any further.

In my 7mm-08, it's awesome!

Never found a better combination than 7-08, 140 grain bullet and Varget(42.5 grains=2850 fps).

My 7-08 Mountain Rifle shoots 140 ABs at 2730 with 43 grains of Varget. Even with the skinny barrel, it'll shoot 3 into about .75" if I let the barrel cool between shots. BTW, I get considerably better accuracy (but less velocity) with Varget than with H4350, the powder I used before trying Varget.

Hold carefully; I expect those bullets will want to land on the same spot. Varget is good to the 7mm-08 in my experience. And I've actually gotten very good speeds with 130-139 grainers with it. My rifle must have had a late date with the chamber reamer though. It has a rather snug chamber which is good for accuracy, kind of touchy with pressures.

I settled on Varget after failing to get H-414 to work. Happy with sub-1/2" MOA at 200 yards.

I guess I'm odd man out. When Varget first came out, it was gonna be the do-all be-all of powders. I've tried Varget in several different calibres and, while it gives good results acrost a pretty broad field, I have yet to find one where Varget is THE powder. I have always been able to find another powder that did a better job.
In the 7-08, my go to powder is H4895 followed by H414.

Wish I could get a hold of some more Varget!! I load it up in 223, 7-08, and my 270 and have less that 100 grains of it left, called my local reloading supplier and he says that his people don't have a clue when they are going to get any in!!! Anyone else having problems finding it on the shelves? Of the 4 places locally that carry powder none of them have it.....

I bought another jug of it the other day at Bass Pro in Memphis.

I've had good luck with it in my son's 7-08 with 120 gr. Ballistic Tips. 45 grs gives me about 3025 fps and very acceptable accuracy out of a bone stock Ruger Hawkeye:

Me, too. I kept tinkering with it trying to get it to work....but discovered that Varget was an easier route to take.

Delta Hunter,

I'd call that load more than good!

I have yet to try Varget in the 7mm-08 and probably won't . My pet Deer load is the 145Gr. Speer BTSP over 47Gr. of W-760 , it groups sub MOA and kills Deer like lightening ! I'm not one to fix things that aren't broke !
