Members, Can someone please tell me what Browning changed when they went to the A-Bolt II?

I have a generation 1 A-Bolt and like it very much. Sending it to Kampfeld for a new stock.

thanks

Coop

The first A-Bolt had a fluted bolt.

abolt 1 had alot of stock changes, they can be a real pain to get a pre fitted pad for.
Browing did changes to the bolt as it bound. abolt 2 had a shroud around it.
The trigger also changed, they put crome on some moving parts.

Yep, mine has a fluted bolt. Never experienced the binding issue though.

I have been thinking for some time having Karl put a McMillan on it, Ceracote the entire rifle and lighten up the trigger. The factory barrel seems good and I like the caliber (7mm Rem Mag), so I thought I would have him chop it down to 25" and re-crown.

I don't here of much custom work being done on the Abolts, so that's why I'm asking the members here their opinion, before I throw my money away.

You send that rifle to McMillan and they will make you a good stock. I'd have them do the fitting as well since you'll probably have to send the barreled action in. You'll pay for it, but it will be the best composite stock you can get.

As far as differences between the A-Bolt I and II. The II has a chrome plated sear and adjustable trigger and as mentioned above, the bolt was redesigned. I do not believe the stocks are different as far as barreled action fit is concerned, although they did make style changes in the pistol grip and butt area. Browning lists the same part number for replacement stocks for both guns, so there is no difference in barreled action dimensions.

Pardon my inexperience, I have never bought a McMillan stock before.

Can't Karl do the whole deal? Or do I have to do everything but the stock first from Karl, then send barreled action to McMillan.

by the way, How much are we talking for the stock?

thanks for the help

Sure, he can do the finish inletting and final fitting. McMillan offers different models of stocks in various stages of completion and the price varies depending on model, degree of completion and options you choose.

RickBin sells them right here. Just click on the this highlighted word: McMillan.

Best,

Jm
