Put it into a car's radiator and face it into the wind, according to many people, it will freeze almost instantly.

Taint much hot up here.

Whats this "heat index" thing you guy's talk about, if it is 95 is should feel like 95. Maybe you guys need to adjust your thermometers! It was only 112 here today, felt like it was 112 outside summer is almost here.

Try 90 degree heat and 80 percent humidity. Sux it does.

It is wind chill in reverse. It happens down here in the south. miles

I know, it's a dry heat here I am from MN and know about 90* and 90% humidity, was just thinking of the heat index like daylight savings time, just adjust your thermometers like you clocks

Fish head, Putting salt in the water you want to freeze will make it freeze at a lower temperature and, therefore, make it take longer to freeze. Putting some salt in some ice surrounding the jugs will make the surrounding ice melt at a lower temperature and will cause the liquid water in contact with the outside of the jug of pure water to be below the normal freezing temperature of pure water. The liquid water will transfer heat better than air or solid ice and will cause the pure water in the jug to freeze faster.

Been making ice cream that way for 40 years. GOOD STUFF!!

So ,,,,,,,,,,does this mean we have to flip the engine fan around in the winter to make our engines warm up faster and not freeze the radiator?

You got it right, Rock Chuck. Few things better than home made ice cream. Hand cranked is the best, especially if you can get someone else to crank.

Maybe you guys need some humidity out there. It's like a sauna outside here.

95* here, 18% humidity. nearly impossible to sweat -- you just dehydrate like a prune.

(really, set a piece of moist bread out and you have a crushable crouton in under 20 minutes).


as to the OP, the bigger the freezer, the better. room temp to 10*, figure 36-48 hours depending on your freezer's horsepower.

So bout 1 am tomorrow morning. Best guess so far.

I know it take about 72 hours to freeze a 6 gal jug in a -30* chest freezer, so I'm back-calculating from there.*

* I finally got smart and take them all to the walk-in for 48 hours -- he does it for free.....

I know that you can put salt in your ice chest along with the ice and water and drive rough roads for a little while and have Ice in your beer. miles

I sometimes put a little sea water in with the ice in my boat cooler and fairly quickly have frozen fish.

I think we hit about 75 today. I had to get a haircut yesterday because the heat was really getting to me...
