I think it is a 25C bolt action in 25-20. Anyone on here than can help me with it?
Trying to buy it now. It was made about 1940 give or take as I understand. I don't have a serial number as yet. Value? Supposed to be about 90% blue and very good wood. Did these come with any kind of a mount for a scope? Thanks, all comments will be appreciated. Supposed to be all original.

That would be a Model 23B. No factory provisions for scope mounting originally. 25 inch round bbl, open sights, walnut stock with schnable tip, no checkering. By 1935 the schnable tip is gone, no sling eyes, no scope mounting. In 1939 basically the same as 1935. The 23 B is not listed in the Number 76 catalogue(1942) while the 23C 32-20 and D 22 Hornet still being offered.

i have a 23-c in 32-20 and like it.... i wanted to get one in 25-20 too, but couldn't find one.... i'd grab it if it's in good condition.... no factory scope mounting provided.... nice shooting rifles....

Thank you fellow shooters. It does have a Schnabel so I guess that makes it older than I thought.

Keep the info coming if you will. The price is $400 plus it has three boxes of 25-20 with it. Fair deal if all else is good?

Seems a little high to me but I've paid too much for a rifle before.

I don't think 25-20 ammo is hard to find, I know Remington still makes it and believe Winchester does too.

I have one in not great shape. The cartridge is a nice round, agreee with what "what" said above.

I have a near new 23B with the plain forend that must be a late one. Bought it years ago from a shop in Middlebury, VT. It was fitted with scope blocks when I got it. One of my favorites.

If you buy it, make sure it comes with at least one Savage-marked magazine. They are harder to find than the rifles and the non-Savage aftermarket ones don't always work.

$400 plus ammo would be a good price here in Southern CA if the rifle is in good shape. (Ammo is over $50 a box).

yeah... you need to make your own ammo.... much cheaper.... i ended up getting a remington model 25, wish i had a savage m23, as it's much easier to retain the brass with a bolt action....

I had a M23 .25-20 for a while in the early 90's. It shot very well and was already drilled and tapped with Weaver bases. It was in good but not pristine shape and IIRC it cost me $125. That was a while ago!

I eventually sold it because I decided the .25-20 really wasn't any better than a .22 Magnum and in some ways not as good. I did have some fun along the way with it though!

Still looking to get the rifle. I have a .218 Bee 43 Winchester Deluxe and Kimber .22 Hornet, Remington 25 in caliber 32-20 and handload for all of them. So, It looks like I might have rifle in all the chamberings pretty soon. Depending on what it looks like and all that stuff I might even tap and drill for a 6 power Unertle small game scope I have. Will have to see what happens next. It has two magazines with it if I understand correctly.

I just looked the gun up in the 1939 Stoger catalog and see what you are all talking about. Plan Jane and no Schnable forend shown so I guess this an early one.
