Both have pluses and minuses. Price is about the same so that is a wash. The Remington is available in wood (which is a plus to some) and the Nova is not. Both have choke tubes, various barrel lengths and additional barrels (slug) are generally available. Both are available in camo if that is your taste (NOT MINE).

I personally have owned both.

The Nova for me did not 'feel' right. Maybe too light, probably stock dimentions too. Can't put a finger on it, but I sold it. They function great and the quality is there for certain for a field grade gun. Being lighter and the stock, it did seem to kick more. Having more synthetic parts means less surface wear in wet conditions.

The Remington has been around forever and I still keep one as a back-up/loaner gun. They flat out work and have been a tried and true design. Bad side is that Remington quality seems to be lacking of late and the finish on Express guns are notorious for needing extra care. Thin blue and a porus finish lead to rust.

For me, it is the 870 of the two. My suggestions is that they are more or less equal, so go to a store and throw both to your shoulder. One will feel better and that is the one that will follow you home.

+1 on the 870. I have four. Great shotgun.

My experience exactly.

Have you looked at the new coated remington updated 870. The 887 I think it is? Get the 870 action AND the Nova imperviousness.

2 pennies

Aw, I like my Nova, though I use it not quite exclusively for waterfowl. Nice with heavy loads and the optional recoil reducer. I have other preferences for upland. It does have an odd feel for many people and some never get used to it.

I have no experience with the 887, but there have been some very poor reports on it.

The 887 is the biggest POS I have ever put my hands on. Thats the nicest thing I can say about them. I used to like an 870, but the last few new ones I have seen have been cheapened up considerably by Rem, so unless its an older one(not possible on a SuperMag) I would go with the Benelli.

yeah i am amazed how cheap remington is making their shotguns now. the finish looks like it's baked on charcoal chunks, and the black synthetics look horrible. i know it's meant to increase profit and keep the price low but, yuck!

this is of course the cheaper line. if you want shiny and perfect, you can spend $700 and still get it.

i assume the actions are just as good as any though? but who knows?

you'd think the machines making those things would be paid off by now...lol
