Going on an early season black bear hunt in a few weeks, and southern Oregon in August can be fairly warm. I've got my hot weather boots sorted out, Danner desert acadia's, 8" tall, but am in need of hot weather boot socks. My boots are just a bit oversized to accomodate a medium thick sock, so super thin dry fit socks are out. Any suggestions?

Last week in temps up to 114 I wore a mid weight wool sock in the desert style army boot and my feet weren't noticably uncomfortable like I thought they would be.

Light Hiker weight REI/Smartwool socks work for me. Plenty of cushioning and not too warm.

I much prefer Dahlgrens for my serious hot weather hunting. Wool gets wet and stays that way. Which is tough on the feet, if you are inclined to blister. Dahlgrens wick moisture out the top, which is especially important when using Gore-Tex boots during hot weather. E

I am in the light wool group with liner. My feet sweat no matter what, the wool and liner works for me.

I use a thin pair of double layer Wrightsocks, with a pair of Smartwool Light Hiker socks over them. That is three layers of socks, guaranteed no blisters and they keep your feet cool and dry.

I would just go with a medium weight wool and a liner sock of polypro or coolmax. I've hiked in August and in July in New Mexico wearing a liner and ragg wool socks with no discomfort.

I wear boots and wool socks year round with no discomfort. I find my feet get just as hot and just as sweaty in cotton socks as they do with wool. The difference is my feet are more comfortable in the wool socks.

Yes, the Cabela's socks are fine.

I get a lot of merino wool socks from Campmor and

Going back to a liner and wool boot sock has paid me a bunch of cicvidends. I haven't had a bad blister in a long time.

I'm liking the liner idea as I try to change my socks at least twice a day when in the field and moving alot, generally every 6 hours or so.

When you guys say liners, do you mean something like thin silk, merino, capilene, synthetic or other material half-socks that are worn under a full length wool sock? So I could replace the liner and use the same full length sock throughout the day?

Yes there are poly pro liners and for warm weather there is also Coolmax socks. They really help keep my feet dry by wicking the sweat to the outer sock. In my experience I'll take off my wool sock and within a couple of minutes the liner will be dry. You can actually feel it dry while still on you foot. However I like to change my liners and outer socks once a day.

Smartwool for me, I've ventured away from them several times but have came back to Smartwool every time. No sense in changing again.

Just pig hunted in 90 deg+ using medium weight smart wool and a coolmax liners. My boots were LaCrosse Brawny 9" Uninsulated Hunting Boots and I felt very comfortable.

Wool with a liner, as everyone else suggests. I'll use a silk liner sometimes, or a polypro liner, depending on what's in the sock drawer and easiest to reach.

Deserve's got nothing to do with it.

Smartwool-light hikers or the Cabela's version of the same thing would work well for you in warm temps.

I've worn Smartwool socks every day-year round for the past ten years. Well worth the $.

Over the past couple years, I have had several pairs of Smartwool socks ware out with in a short time. I've since switched to Bridgdale Merino socks. They are harder to find but a superior sock IMO.
