LOL, no doubt it's raised eyebrows, suffice to say shot placement can save the day in a pinch in many situations.
A good 260 or 6.5x55 load should do very similar work that a 270/130 combo has done, and those have alot of history on big game in NA.

For the bigger stiff I look at SD more than the BC at around 250 or so SD.

I always like 250 or more, w/exception of some bonded and mono bullets. They skew the typical cup/core SD logic IMHO.
No doubt, the 140-160s, in most flavors (most being cup/core) have all proven worthy on the largest of game, elk/moose/bear, etc. Those heavy for cal bullets shoot modest speeds and retain wt. well and dig deep.

Just finished up testing the 130 Swift S2's and I'm smiling! Put together 10 rounds with 43.0grs H4350 seated to the lands and shot 5@ 100...group was right at 1", nice and round. I seated the other 5 back 0.10 and shot another 5 these went into .6". MV was 2898 average. Stepped inside the shop and loaded those 10 empties with 43.5grs H4350. five of those went .4 @ 100 with an average velocity of 2922fps. Easy bolt lift, no ejecter mark, nice round primers and pockets are nice and tight as well.
Out to the hills tomorrow for a little long range session.
Looking at JBM and comparing this load to the load I'm running in my 6XC, they are almost exactly the same....6.5 bullets are made to fly through the air!!

Both of those new GAP .260's were the easiest rifles to "shoot in" I've ever had. Those guys put together good stuff...

That sounds great Pat, if you find a better powder than H4350 I'll be surprised. Those Swift S2's may flay flatter than what JBM indicates. The 6XC is going to be jealous. I put together this 3 shot group with Swift S2's a couple of days ago out of a 6.5-284 mv 3,150.

Out the door right now....gotta beat the heat!! Pat, just came back in for some breakfast, another beautiful morning! Looks like we dodged another bullet yesterday with the storms going north and east again. We got a house deal in the works and work should settle down here in another week or two. Once we get caught up hopefully the weather cools off a little(in August probably not but maybe) we'll have to meet up and attack some steel!

SU35 do you mind sharing the specs on that rifle? Why did you build on short action instead of a long action?
Thanks Dink

SU, Can't knock a 'one holer 6.5mm' that spits 130s at 3150. Nice rifle you have there.
Like to know bbl specs.

Rem 700 Ti short action with Wyatts box. Barrel, 25" Lothar Walther #1 Mcmillain compact stock edge tech, Mtn rifle config COAL is 2.970 seated 0.10 off the lands 284 win brass necked down Win primer RS Magnum powder, 61 grains Feeds and ejects better than anything I own. This is a true campfire rifle, I bought all components here. My ES is less than 20, (was 60) due to using a K&M 6.5 expander mandrel to iron out a perfectly centered inside neck (and NO I don't turn necks). I also removed the expander off the decap in my full length size die. I figure the neck tension has improved vastly and had a direct effect on my ES and groups. Why did you build on short action instead of a long action?
Thanks Why not? with the Wyatts box it's a done deal. I don't need a long action to make this work. I keep hearing it's not doable but I sure do it. My apologies to Pat for hijacking his post/thread here. I look forward to hearing his results. Love those 260's!

SU, dont worry about any hijacking...its all good intel! Where I ended up this morning I couldnt shoot real far and had to settle for 450M. They were calling for wind coming hard before mid morning. I had near perfect conditions to shoot and test this 130gr load and wasnt disappointed! Shot these prone from a 6X9 Harris and rear bag. These 5 went right at 2". Mike Rock makes a pretty good barrel.....grin!

Dang! that's good! That does Rock! I'm curious of your come ups from 100? Was JBM on or were they sailing flatter? btw, I'm using that same 10" armor plate.

My zero for that rifle is 180 meters. From there my come up for 450M was 2.0 mils.
They were a bit higher, but it was a little warmer than the temp I ran the chart at. Elevation here is 2500.
I'm really impressed with that bullet so far....looking forward to crushing some big game with it this fall. According to JBM that bullet is still producing 1400+ foot pounds at 450M. Thats quite a bit of power out of such a small package.

You should be able to kill elk at that distance.
