looks like they are going to loose this years hunt. most people are buying those sorts of things RIGHT NOW, and leica doesn't have product out.

I'm not all that familiar with SWFA but they have them listed...

Ordered mine on 7/30 from Cabelas, should be in my safe no later than 8/9. Meant to add they had 70 in stock at the time I ordered.

Why did they make it so small?? Long range targets are not easy to hold steady on with such a small rangefinder.

hmmmm....just called the 800 number for Cabela orders....they show the 1600 on back order and said they have not received any in yet.....no date for receiving their first shipment was available.

Err...gr8ful Doug (CameralandNY) is our Hunting Optics Forum sponsor here, a Leica Dealer, and I'd bet he'll have the Leica 1600 as soon as anyone has them.

Me - I buy all non-Leupold items from Doug and have found him and the Cameraland Crew to always go the extra mile for 24HCampfire members. Recently they dug up a Manfrotto 625 quick change adapter for my window mount so that I can use my spotters, big eyes binoculars, and rangefinders in the car or on either of my two tripods without removing their Bogen/Manfrotto hex quick change plates. That's a part they do not handle but they acquired one for me and acted like they were happy to do that - and they could have just told me where I could buy the part. Instead, they got it, put it with the other items that I ordered, saved me shipping costs and time.
Didn't mark it up, either.

Lee - I believe you are right - the Cabelas person I spoke with over the weekend must have given me bad info. I just called Cabelas again - Cabela's distribution has the 1600 and it can be ordered. None of their stores have them yet.

I am on Doug's call list for the 1600 since about 3 months ago, but I have not heard from him yet. I'll give him a call before I order from Cabelas.

Don, I envy your hunt, hope it goes well. WI, wish I could of waited for the 2011 Shot Show and purchased one of Doug's Demo's. The only thing worse than paying retail, is putting it on a credit card, and I did both. Like Don, I really need it for an upcoming Elk hunt in October. At least that's what I keep telling myself.

I suspect people will be paying retail for the 1600 for some time. Don't think Leica will allow discounting for a while.

Here's the deal....
Leica only received a few units (less than 100) and sent all of them to Cabelas. This was the entire first run of the 1600. At this time they are the only ones who received them. The second run which will be substantially larger will be another 2-5 weeks according to Leica.
I do not know why the first run was so small, however, I'd like to think it is not a "bug check" or anything of the like. Either way Cabelas is the only source that got any deliveries on this product.
We understand totally if time is pressing and you wish to cancel existing orders with us on this item if you can grab one from Cabelas.
If this is what you'd like to do please speak with either Neil or me and as we wish to compensate you in some manner for the opportunity to assist you on this product. Unfortunately Leica did not spread the delivery around

Wow! This is the type of customer service that impresses me.

Doug is a class act even if he didn't pick me up and take me along to see Art's boat this time around I will let my order ride with Doug even though I have been without a rangefinder for a few months now..sold my Leica scan and ordered the 1600. Good things come to those that wait.
