Ok, I am planning on building a fast 25 of some persasion and as of right know am considering either the 257 weatherby or the 6.53 scramjet. The barrel is a 26 inch 25-06 sendero barrel that I will have rechambered and fit to my left hand 700 (which has a magnum bolt face). Knowing this which would be best to go with? Thanks for your time.

The scramjet will possibly net you an extra 100-150fps, a seriously cool name and more expensive brass. If you're a true individualist, chamber for the Laz.

I'm quite content with the Roy. smile

If you ever think you might sell it, go with the Weatherby. Otherwise you'll be stuck with a left handed Scramjet the rest of your days. I've got a lefty 257 Wby and it certainly scratches the fast and flat itch.

25-20 Winchester. It's not as fast, but the 92s are a kick to shoot, and there's something about watching a deer's face change expression when he realizes he's been shot with one.

Sorry, it's my only 25 caliber rifle and nobody ever speaks up for them anymore. smile

You could do a 257 STW. 6.5 or 264 is a far superior long range caliber though.

By having a 27.5 inch tube and using 'moly, I am getting scramjet speeds with my 257WBY. In a 26 inch tube, I doubt that there really would be a measureable difference in real world velocity, assuming good case life in the handloads, and I am the worlds worst velocity whore.

25 ROY all the way on this one. If you build something with a 30 inch tube, the Lazz round would be interesting.

257-300 Roy wildcat. It would match or better the scramjet and you could get plenty of norma cases for less.

Sincerely,
Thomas

That one would be merely the 257STW with a wierd shoulder and way too long of a neck. Nothing more. Easier to do the 257STW, but really similar. My suspicion is that neither is not going to give much, if anything, over a 257WBY in a 26 inch bbl.

Funny stuff there! It would be fun to use one on a deer, but the methodology would look a lot like bowhunting I would think. Get cloose, make a perfect shot, track it to its death bed.

I'm lucky; the only buck I ever shot with my 25-20 I shot through---maybe just "into", I don't remember---the heart and he jumped up in the air. When he came down, one of his front legs hung up between his horns and stayed there until he died, so he didn't go anywhere. Seriously! smile
