Has anyone made their own roll up stove pipe for their stove? I am just curious, is it just stainless shim stock or is their more to it?

I am thinking 316 stainless shim stock, .005"/.007" in thickness with some with some worm drive hose/tube clamps.

Any thoughts?

.004 Stainless with aircraft cable or braided stainless downrigger cable for the rings. McMaster-Car has the shim stock.

12" wide, 100 inch long piece cut to what you need length wise.

I wonder if you should use a certain grade of SS for the chimney Fastenal has 302/304 grade and Mcmaster Carr has 316 ?

I don't think the potential for rusting is worth worrying about. The degree to which it "sets" after high temps would be the biggest factor. I don't recall the characteristics of those grades, but remember McMaster-Carr listing them on their website.

I imagine EdT has just the answer you are looking for though.

I have used both 302/304 and 316 and haven't noticed a difference in durability or "set ability"

You would need a 12" wide roll of .004 stainless steel shimstock long enough to get you through the top of the tipi by a couple feet.
