I have this old gun! It is a neat old falling block action with a 30 inch barrel.

Years ago my Uncle passed away and left me this old 12 guage which I was wondering if any one knew the history of this model. It is a neat old break action with a 30 inch barrel but no where does it state that it is a 12 guage but it isthe only label is on the barrel

made by the Hopkins & Allen arms co. Norwich Conn. U.S.A

Hopkins and Allen were one of the better arms makers.
They made many rifles, shotguns, and pistols (Merwin-Hubert).
They had a fixed price contract to make 91 Mausers, WW1
caused costs to go up they went bankrupt.

Here is a link to a reprint of one of the old catalogues.
Reprint Hopkins and Allen

Norwich was a big gun town esp during the Revolution, similar to Springfield and Hartford in the day. They called the city the "Rose city" because of the very nice buildings and parks built on the money brought in from the many manufacturing outfits that called it home.
Cool to see some of the old ones at a few local events.
The single shot is mentioned on the link I posted above as being in the middle of the catalog.

I used to only shoot shotguns and rimfires, then I made the mistake of getting a subscription to handloader.......

The only Hopkins and Allen guns I have encountered have
been beat up single shot shotguns. Didnt know they made
rifles also. Interesting.

Not an expert but I have a pretty clean H&A SxS 16 gauge hammer gun. I shoot low pressure loads through it and, while choked darn tight, it shoots pretty darn well hitting where it is pointed. They are considered cheap old clunkers by most. I am a bit partial to mine as a friend gave it to me some years ago.

Tony, my dad has a 12 gauge double hanging above the fire place. It looks just like your shotgun except some old caveman used a chisel to tighten the gap between the barrel and the part of the action where the head of the case sits. Gives it character I guess, we've never shot it and probably never will!
