Looking for an economy scope that has the wider types of duplex. So which has the better coatings on the lenses for hunting the darker side of washington(olympic peninsula).

I think it's said the Redfield comes CLOSE to the VX-2 in performance, better than a VX-1, and the latter may be where the Rifleman falls.

If you want the most bang for the buck, the Red. Rev. gives you a wide duplex version of their 'plex' reticle, and optics are very good IMHO. Same warranty. For value and a budget, look hard at the Redfield.

If I were you, I`d call Leupold directly with your questions and ask their technical staff.

They`ll probably be able give you better product in-sight comparisons between these two scopes, as to the coatings, the lenses, and light transmission, etc.

I've compared a brand bew 2-7 Redfeild side by side to several Leupold FX and VX scopes with the wide duplex. The regular 4-Plex on the Refields IS Identical to the Wide Duplex on the Leupolds.

I have never heard anyone who has actually compared them side by side who could tell a bit of difference optically between the new Redfield, Leupold Rifleman AND the VX-1 scopes.

The warrantees are the same.

Reallly, the $50-60 extra for the Rifleman will get you a little more lustorous tube finish and a Gold ring. But ,The Redfeilds have finger adjustable click knobs which neither the Rifleman nor the VX-1 scopes have.

I've had both and still have the Revolution, a bunch of scope for the money.

i have the 2-7 in the Redfield and the Vari-XII, to my eyes, it appears the Redfield is clearer and brighter.

I have compared several of the new Redfields to Leupold VX-I's and VX-II's, even an FX-III 6x42. The new Redfileds are better than the VX-I's by a fair margine. I had a tough time telling them apart optically from the VX-II's although there is a slight advantage to the VX-II's.

I would, and do, easily choose the new Redfields over the Riflemans and VX-I's as they are better in every measurable way. Durability is yet to be determined but so far so good for me.
