I just picked up another Ambassadeur on E-bay for my buddy. This one's a 5500 and it cost me $18.00 and change including shipping. It's scratched up, but otherwise looks good. Think I did okay. Need a couple graphite or composite poles for these now. Kind of holding off until garage sales start. I can usually find them pretty cheap at the sales.

fishing reels? It is February 16th, 3-5 inches of snow expected, windy and it is 13 degrees out and we are talking fishing reels?

Well I have and use baitcasters quite a bit for northerns and muskies. I have Abus and Shimanos. They have all been good, but the one that I find in my hand more than anything else is a Shimano Calcutta. Dont know if they even make them anymore cuz this is a late 90s model. I have a 6500, 5500, 5600 and another one or two in the Abu line. Good stuff, but generally not as smooth as the Shimano line. I really wonder how many casts I have made in my life. All those reels have stood up to a lot of casting. I used to sell rods and reels on the weekends for 6-8 years. Good way to earn extra money to buy equipment!

I've never tried the Schimano's but know many that run them and they say their very good reels. I've just found the Ambassadeurs to work well for me, so I stick with them. I'm headiing to Ohio in May to drop this stuff off for my buddy, so instead or running around a week before I leave and dropping a bunch of money all at once, I'm spreading out the expenditures. Works better for us and our finances.

If you can't get out in the boat, dreaming about it is the next best thing. They're calling for 6" here on Monday.

I have two Quantam low-pro's that I have set up for Lindy Riggin too. They have a "flippin" switch on them so I can feed line to those little light biting cross eyed suckers.

They're a hellova reel but at $200 a pop, you may not find any on the cheap.

Hah!! For me baitcasters = birdsnest. Never quite got the hang of it. Screwed up my reels and a few of my buddies whistle. Spent more time untangling, cutting, and respooling than fishing. Dumb enough to keep trying for awhile, but perhaps smart enough to know to know when I'm licked. Spinning for me. Been running Cabelas Prodigys, old Mitchell 300s and yes, even a few Zebcos.

I'm mainly a spinning reel fisherman. I do have a couple of bait casters, a Abu 5500C and a Shimano. My uncle gave me his 6500C that we gave him as a birthday gift back in the early 70's. It's in like new condition.

Looks like I'm going to be booking a Moose Hunt in BC for 2015.

Good morning everyone!

Stepping on briefly to wish a special little guy happy birthday.

Plays with matches is in the double digits today!!!! Happy happy birthday Jophiss David (Joseph David-he could never say Joseph when he was little), aka our old soul aka our little old man in a boy's body aka my baby. You bring so much joy, happiness and laughter to our family and you truly are a blessing. The way you look at each day and your perspective is one that reminds me to look at things in a different light.

You are growing up way to fast for this mom but you are a great kid. We hope you like your birthday present!

Have a great day everyone!! I have the day off so I'll be preparing supper, lasagna-Joey's request of course, and a chocolate cake/chocolate frosting with sprinkles. It's a great day, enjoy!

I purchased a nice little item from John Barsnes in Nov of 2009. Been saving it for today, the day Joey turns 10.

They still make em BM. They are top of the top IMO for muskies/northerns. They're smooth as glass.

Tzone-have a great day! The boys left for school a little bit ago, RWS decided to drive Black Betty instead of his Honda. It's been snowing for awhile now and Dave said the roads are not great.

Quiet house, uff not sure I can take it. Mini Dave kept asking if I was going to wrap his present. Hmmmm, I told him I would later today. grin

I'm fairly confident that it's going to happen, Tom. We'd be going with the same outfitter (Lobo Peak Guides) that we used in 2006. We'd even have the same guide. My son met with them last Sunday out in Portland and got the details. They're going to let the grandson come along for free. He can hunt grouse.

They have 2 openings. Early September and mid October. Son wants to take a bear so the early season would be best for that. The late season has been the best for moose though.

Are you old enough to have a 37 year old grandson? grin
