I regularly carry a revolver to shoot snakes when I'm out and about. For that job, only a revolver will work reliably, as I have never found a snake-shot load that would function, feed/fire/eject, reliably through a semi-auto.

I own a 4" S&W 18 and a Buckmark. The Smith gets most the attention and is great to teach a kid, but sometimes it's just plain fun to lay out 10 rounds in about two and a half seconds. smile

I have 4 semi autos (Beretta 21, 2 buckmarks, Ruger 22/45) and a S&W model 63 kit gun. I like them all....I had a single six which I sold to a good friend of mine - very accurate but heavy for the cartridge. I had a model 18 I stupidly let go - most accurate revolver I've owned, I believe, and a K22 which I also let go like a moron...

I have .22 autos in a Beretta Mod 21 and Rugers in MK I,II,&III. I would love to have an H&R 999 9shot or a S&W 617 10shot in a .22LR revolver.

My favorite woods carry gun is a SS 3" Charter Pathfinder .22LR with an adjustable sight that I bought new in the early 70's. I later sent it back to the factory and had the cylinder bored to .22mag. It is a great small carry revolver, but only 6 shot.

I guess you didn't like the 317 Airlite you let go to me, but it has become my favorite .22 for a lot of reasons. wink

Spo..,

I've always been a wheelgun guy but I've never found the perfect .22 wheelgun. My favorite .22s are autos. They just seem to be more accurate and easier to shoot.

When it comes to plnking I use a S&W22A with a red dot or a Browning with irons. A Single six, High Standard Longhorn and a Bearcat mostly lay in the safe and get oiled. Had a K22 once and didn't care for the way it balanced.

Your question is mostly personal preference and you're gonna have to try several and see what YOU like.

I would vote yes to both. I have a S&W model 41 and a FA model 97 in .22LR.
And also add my T/C single shot 22.LR with its 14" match grade barrel. laugh

I also like them both - mine are an old K-22 and a M41. Depends what I'm doing; the K-22 has seen alot of time horseback.

Wheelguns for me though I own both. The High Standard auto is super accurate but the High Standard Sentinal feels so much better and its accurate enough for plinking

red..,

surprised you like the HS revolver. Trigger pulls were usually terrible. worked over my longhorn, single action is now OK but double is just awful.

I like them all. I had a S&W K frame .22 that shot very well, but it ran out of ammo too quickly. Six shots just aint enough. I like the Ruger MK II really well. Very easy to shoot accurately, but ten rounds isn't enough either. I'd like to see a snail drum for it that holds about 50 rounds. I like the Ruger Single Six very well. I think this is probably my favorite .22 handgun on the range or in the field. I also like my T/C Contender G2 .22 LR. It's easy to clean. I too, runs out of ammo too quickly, but it's the fastet to reload. LOL.

I have owned a LOT of .22 handguns. My present most used one is a J.C. Higgins Model 88 which is the same as a Hi Standard Sentinel. It has a 4" barrel and is super accurate.I have owned and shot this 9 shot revolver since 1985.I recently won revolver division in a steel plate match with it.It is one of those that will never leave my accumulation of firearms.

The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70,it's almost a religion.

If you have to take a second shot then you probably shouldn't have taken the first shot.

K22 Masterpiece and a Ruger MkI. Wouldn't want to do without either. Both are amazingly accurate. Love shooting 22s.
