The Remington sights are good quality. I rarely shoot a scope. I bought my 700 .243 in 2001, zeroed it at 100 yards and have not moved the sight since. A few months ago, I purchased another 700 in .30-06 that came without sights. I bought a set of Remington sights from a guy on ebay and had a gunsmith install them for me. It worked out great. There are better sights out there, but the Remington sights are good enough.
It's only a name. It could just as easily have been Nosler Partition.

I'd lend your ear the Gunny's way and cut to the chase. Remington irons are paltry,at best and I bleed Green...............

Replace the front bead with a XS blade and widen the rear sight notch for the sight width or mount an XS peep sight.
Most sights that come on rifles are just there for looks and not for using.

Extremely fast and accurate from point blank out to as far as I care to shoot with fixed sights. They are quick like pointing your finger.

+1 on the peep. NECG or WIlliams. Spend the extra $5 and get the one with a positive adjustment (one that has a distinct "click") so you know for sure when it moves. They also make a nice replacement front bead.
Keep your powder dry and stay frosty my friends.
