Does anyone know of a firm reproducing Winchester bolt peep sights? Has anyone mounted a bolt peep sight on a Winchester 1895? Thanks for any info.

Several years ago these guys were selling and installing repro bolt peeps for 71s.

Never heard of one on a 95, the Lyman 21 was THE sight for a 95.
this article shows one a few pages in.

While not period correct....

I used an XS ghost ring mounted on the bolt of my 1895. They also made a peep that was threaded to accept a smaller Williams aperture. It worked very well for me and was lightweight and rugged.

Frontier does sell them but they are expensive. They want 350 for the sight and another 150 to install it. I have been looking to put something like this on my browning 71, but since this will never be anything but a copy of the original Winchester I think I am going to do a skinner sight.

A bolt peep requires milling of the bolt to install....I believe the 95's bolt is too wide for original or repro Winchester bolt peeps...

As bosslady posted, the Lyman 21 or 38 is what was commonly found on 1895s....

I actually know the gunsmith in northern Minnesota who makes those sights for Frontier... There's an awful lot of work involved as well as some tricky heat treating.

I thought someone was making a repro of the Lyman 21?

Providence Tool Company is making a repro of the 21/38 Lyman. I don't own one yet, but have seen one at a show and have heard good things. I have several 1895's and need to outfit at least one of them with one. Ryan

I bit the bullet and purchased an original Lyman 21 for my .30-06 Winchester 1895. I just finished mounting it this weekend, can't wait to get to the range and get the rifle sighted in with it. BTW I checked into the Providence Tool repro, nice enough looking sight if you're going to put it on a repro '95 but I wanted the "real thing" for my Winchester. My '06 was made in 1913 and does not look like it has had a box of shells thru it.

I would agree with wanting original too. I have an 1895 that was rebarreled to 300 Savage somewhere along the way and thought that would be the perfect one to "practice" with and see how the sight holds up. I currently have a Lyman 38 that someone mounted to a Savage 99. That one shoots so well, that I can bring myself to take it off. Plus they added an extra hole to the rifle to make it work, so can't unplug the hole wink

Installation of an XS peep on the Win M1895 requires 2 holes D/T'd in the bolt top & a front sight higher than issue.
