Does any body make them, or is the best bet to put a Montana stock on?

McMillan will inlet for the 8400 action on some of their stocks, I'm not sure about all the particulars though. Give 'em a ring...

To put a McMillan or any other plastic stock on a Kimber would be like marrying a supermodel and then removing one of her front teeth and having her breasts removed. Shouldn't be done.

The 84 Montana is an awesome rig for sure.

Wood models are beautiful.

But for me their all weather kevlar/carbon stock is lacking checkering for grip. We buy these rifles for the best factory lightweights and I think considering McMillan's Edge Ultralight has a bit more pistol grip, beautiful checkering, and a little more of a classic comb it may feel more handy. Better handling and better grip sounds just better !!

That would be the icing on the cake for me...

The 8400's are close enough to the 700 that someone could make 700 stocks fit, but it would be a lot of work.

McMillan does Tactical stocks for Kimber 8400's so they have the inletting program.

MPI is the only stock company I know that does stocks for the 84.

In the end, it is real hard to beat a Montana stock and for what some people charge for stocks you could pick up a used Montana and be close in money.

I asked Ryan at McMillan (ShootToWin) Do you inlet/offer the Edge Ultralight for Kimber 84M ?? and if so with and without floorplate?

He said: "As of right now we do not. I probably get a request for one about every couple months. I'll check out this post though."

I love the basic American classic stock as much as anyone, but
for some shooters like women etc the factory Kimber handle is a POOR design

The grip is too open for smaller shooters to achieve good trigger reach and there is not enough drop at the heel.

A trim Monte Carlo stock would be much more comfortable for those folks. Many of which would like the light weight of the Kimbers but would like a more comfortable stock.

There is room for many styles- even Cooper offers a Monte Carlo rollover stock.

I think McMillan should make the new stocks for the new 84L so Kimber gets the damn thing to market in the next 2 years. grin

You might check here.

Haven't seen one of his hunting stocks in person, but he builds a heck of a nice tactical style stock.

I added a little epoxy putty to the forend and grip of my 308 Montana. I reshaped them to give me a little rounder forend and a grip that fills my hand better. I gave it a new paint job which it needed anyway because the original grey color is too light and sticks out like a sore thumb in low light. It feels great to me and gives me better control. It didn't add enough weight to make much difference on such a light rifle. No new stock needed here.

I would definately be interested in a McMillain for the Kimber.

I know this sounds lame, but I would rather mess up a synthetic stock than a pretty wood stock!
