I currently carry a Kahr MK40 with a pocket holster. I live in the Colorad Rockies and have had much more problems with black bears than human crimminals. I am looking to upgrade my CCW to include black bear protection when working in my yard. Have narowed down to Glock 29 if pocket carry is possible or a 41 mag taurus or 44 mag S&W Mountain Gun if there is no small solution. Has anyone pocket carried a Glock 29 and how would it compare to Kahr MK40 if anyone has experience with both?

I pocket carry a Glock model 29 10mm all the time in my pants! It is really not that large of a pistol but packs one hell of a whallop to the target, especially with a 180 or 200 grain bullet. I would opt for the 200 grainers for blackbears!!! You can check out the Double TAP video's on the U-TUBE using the Glock 10mm model 20 and 29 in 10mm.

I often carry m model 29 in my back levi pocket during the grass cutting sessions around the house. It fits the backpocket to a tea. Most light jackets have to small a pocket for the 29 model to fit into but that is really not a problem. I have carried it in my front shorts pocket in 95 degree weather and into eating establishments too.

I've got one, and I wouldn't carry it in a pocket unless I had to. It's a pretty significant pistol. Get a good holster for it for whatever style you need. It's an awesome gun and I love it. I had a S&w 329pd and sold it for the 29, and I don't regret it for a second. Get the 29. So, so versatile.

I pocket carry a sig 238 sometimes, and that's not so bad (not doing anything active, however). I can't imagine hunting and hiking with a 29 in my pocket. Just not enough support.

I tried a Glock 27 in my front pocket and that was way too big. I couldn't imagine carrying a Glock 29. The 27 barely fit, but it took up so much room there was no way I could get a DISCREET firing grip on the gun while it was still in my pocket. (That may not be a consideration for the bears, but it is for humans.) The tight fit also was not conducive to drawing while moving. Then there is the blocky, square rear of the slide which does not make for a smooth, snag free draw unless the rear of the slide already is hanging outside the pocket because of its size!

Aside from that, it's all good.

Nothing to it unless you have really little pockets.

My G29 is a constant companion. For open carry I use a Fobus. For concealed carry I usually use an Uncle Mike's nylon ITP clip holster. It will also neatly clip inside the front pocket of my jeans. Any untucked shirt conceals it in any carry position.

Just sold my Glock 29SF. Didn't like it for pocket carry, cause it just a little too heavy and bulky. It did ride comfortable in a holster just like my Glock 39 does. I do have a S&W 329 "Alaskan Backpacker". Like dryfly said, it's not real versatile, but it does a heck of a job for the purpose it was intended (If you got nerves and hands of steel grin). It's not a fun gun to go plinking with.

It could be done with 5.11 cargo; I carried a G23 in a pocket holster in 5.11s and that's about the same size as a G29. You don't want to carry a defensive pistol in a pocket or out without a holster.

Saw a partner who thought it was funny to carry a SIG 229 in his hip pocket rip the ass end out of his jeans when night when he realized he needed to draw in a hurry.

I may take a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster to the next gun show and trry it out. My all-stainless Kahr MK 40 must be close in weight.
