Well I rolled the dice and purchased a new Kimber Montana in 308 win.(7mm-08 has a six month wait from the factory) Now I am waiting on my scope to arrive so I can break the barrel in properly. Kimber states a 100 round break-in. Sounds like a long day at the range to me. I went with a 2.5-8 power Leupold scope with talley light weight alloy mounts. Any load reccomendations for 150 grain reloads would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Tim

I bought a new Kimber Montana 270 WSM two weeks ago. The barrel and action fit perfectly in the stock but I was worried about the accuracy after reading some of the negative reviews on the Kimber rifles. I put a Swarovski 3x10x42 on it and went to my club to sight it in. After I got it 1.5" high at 100 yards with some 130 gr. Winchester red box bonded ammo I let the barrel cool. I then fired three shots with 130 gr. Winchester Elite XP3 soilds. WOW! I had my twenty-eight year old son with me and he could not believe the 1/2" group I got with a 6 lb rifle with such a thin barrel. The 270 WSM will be perfect for hunting gaslines and cutovers for whitetails here in Alabama. I know some people have had problems with their Kimbers but this rifle is as good or better than my customs and better than any of the production rifles that I own. I will be adding a 300 WSM and a 7mm-08 Montana to my collection in the future.

My experience is that Kimber had a QC problem for a while, but is now much better--especially the barrels.
My experience with Weatherby ULW's that they tend to shoot better with smaller holes in that slim barrel--and often really well.

I've shot/got Montuckies from their inception and ALL dazzle. Have you ever shot a "bad" one in the flesh?...................

After originally posting this topic I choose the Montana in 308 based on price and availabilty. I can honestly say I am not disappointed. After running 60 rounds of the company recommended 100 barrel break in, I am more than satisfied with it's accuracy and function. After begining to breaking the barrel in on factory loads I am preparing a couple of hand loads to test out. One being a 150gr interbond and another a 130gr tsx bt. If these loads work out I should have 1" at 100 yard shooter. Topped with a 2.5x8 Leupold the rifle is very light and well balanced. After talking to the factory it is my understanding that a new barrel factory has been in production in New Jersey for about a year. Maybe these new barrels have something to do with better accuracy?
