Friend of mine worked as an engineer on an oil project in one of the former Russian 'Stans.

The depot he worked at was in a huge fenced camp, that evolved its own village for the local workers and their families.

He was saying one of the main dangers in the camp was the village curs that packed up and would travel around like a wolf pack..In day light, they weren't too brave, but at night you wouldn't want to pass out p1ssed anywhere as you'd be a goner..Even in the day, a simple bite meant being shipped off for Rabies jabs..

After much complaints that the dogs were getting out control, the local "dog catcher" was sent in to sort them out, which he did with an AK-47..

The guy would drive around the town half drunk and just let loose when he saw a dog; any folks around and about had to duck for cover!

I'm thinking "Health and Safety" wasn't a big issue over there...

Wow! We have a modern day Davey Crockett in our midst. Did you try grinning the bear to death?

I have been reading a little about Russia in some farm/ranch magazines.
Appears to be a pretty interesting place.
