Not much of a quote but I like it when Katherine Hepburn is getting on him for being drunk. Drinking makes people silly, why do they wish to be silly.
Of course the Dukes reply makes me smile..Why do people wish to be sober? Life's no bed of roses sister. It's from Rooster Cogburn.

The good quote comes from Hepburn:

A wise old owl sat in an oak
the more he heard the less he spoke

The less he spoke the more he heard
Now wasn't that a wise old bird.

alpinecrick,
That "big rock" behind Duvall, isn't that Crystal Crag around the
Mammoth Lakes area of Ca., Mono Co. I think.
A lot of "True Grit" was filmed in Inyo F.S. Ca.

I thought True Grit was filmed in Colorado, and Rooster Cogburn in Oregon....

I can't remember the movie, but when Wayne was shot in the thigh, his reaction was "OW!".

Got any ex-troopers here who've been shot and can verify that this is the appropriate thing to say in that circumstance?

Marion Morrison quoted what ever was written for him.

I see the same thing. But lemme guess, there's some form of sodomy/homosexuality involved in his epic banter? eek

John Wayne was not a fictional character.
John Wayne was the legitimate stage name of Marion (Duke) Morrison.

Sergeant John Stryker
Sean Thornton
Ethan Edwards
Tom Doniphan
J. B. Books
Were just a few of the many fictional characters played by Duke Wayne.

And I guess you missed all the John Wayne quotes and unscripted interview answers.
That used to get him in so much trouble with the left wing press.
