The older the better.
Wanna see some nice machining look into a 721/721 action.

"Galling is a form of surface damage arising between sliding solids, distinguished by microscopic, usually localized, roughening and creation of protrusions, (i.e., lumps,), above the original surface.

Given a equal lack of lube stainless will gall first over CM everytime.

Metal Galling

And Shooters Choice red grease is not a good preventive for lug galling despite what you read on the net. IIRC I was using it at the time I galled a lug. My 'smith stated he has seen more galling issues involving Shooters Choice grease more than anything else, apparently it gives one a false sense of security regarding lug galling. Anti-seize is far superior and is designed to specifically prevent galling.

I would not use it on a hunting outfit. But for my BR and varmint rigs.STP works rather well.
TSI-301 will slick up a 700 to a point that you would not believe.

Mtnhtr,
Is the galling concern eliminated if the action is Cerakoted?

Depends if the lug's wear surfaces are coated. I don't blast the lugs wear surfaces when I coat and prefer to keep the lugs metal to metal contact so as not to alter headspace. Cerakote would not last long on the wear surfaces anyways, its a high friction area.

I prefer stainless, but it depends on the budget and CM is generally less $$.
