I know that you can purchase 22 LR birdshot with the plastic capsule containing the shot.

My question is can you still get the kind that is crimped to hold the shot inside and has no plastic capsule on the end?

If so, any information would be greatly appreciated.

FWIW, I�ve never seen a difference in performance, but if you�re cycling it through a rifle from any sort of a magazine, the crimped ammo is the way to go. Having a plastic capsule break open and losing #12 shot into the action of your gun SUCKS.

Kevin's right. Both perform about the same, the crimped Winchester rounds stay together. The Winchester was about all you could find last Summer.

I would lay under our Cherry Trees and killed the cherry eating birds when i was a teen with the Birdshot rounds, worked great at the short range. Early 60's

I can tell you from personal experience that if you live in the deep south the opportunity to kill a snake in your house has a probability factor rating of HIGH. As far as my wife or my mom is concerned it doesn't matter if they are 10 in. or 10 ft.

I use the Winchester rat shot (crimped w/#12 shot) for snake killing when I'm fishing. Handguns are S&W mod. 18 and Browning buck mark. Like them both but the buck mark has to be cycled manually. The Winchester load knocks the living shat out of a snake out to about 10 ft. I like to keep several boxes on hand so when I see them I always try to pick up a couple at a time.

Thanks for the tip about the buckmark needing to be cycled manually. I was not sure if a semi-auto pistol would cycle with these birdshot loads. Guess I will need to just try them in my Ruger Mark II, Browning Challenger or Beretta Neos to see if any of these will handle birdshot without being manually cycled.

That is exactly why I live in MI.......

I recently purchased a chamber adapter that allows me to shoot 22 shells in a shotgun. Mine is for 12 gauge. I got it to use in barn for birds. So far so good. I am using it in a Sabatti double that has a folding rifle site in rib and so far it works great on the shot loads

.22 mag. shot ammo is outstanding, almost twice the pellets. Better shot density than the centerfire handgun shot ammo as they use larger shot. At least until you get up into the .45 acp crimped shot ammo and that is pretty terrific too.
