OP,
I've got a 77/22 mag. the gray metal laminate version that will put CCI FMJ and the HP version into about an inch and a half at 100 yards. My wife has the marlin version of same and it will do the same with the same ammo.

The Ruger is purtier, but the Marlin probably cost half as much and with any luck, The Mrs. doesn't dwell on that? ;O)

The guys says that he has me on "ignore", but adds his usually stupid/ignorant/dumb posts, so he is either a liar or he peeks. Besides, he posts such stupid comments that somebody who didn't know any better might follow his advise and do something dumb.

I agree. He probably eats paint chips and plays under power lines. Pretty sad that he's so bitter and lonely that the only thing he has is the internet and stirring crap so that someone will pay him attention.

take care.

the Mrs. puts up with my gun hoarding. grins That and she's pretty proud that she picked out the marlin for less and it shoots just as well.

I prefer the 77/22 to the marlin and have been looking to add a 77/22 Hornet to my collection. Something about those rifles always brings a smile to my face. Dang kids like them too! so, looks like i'll have to find some more so that i can have one!

I have an 882ss that shoots 1 1/2" with Win 40gr ammo, about the same with Rem Premier and 34 win Supreme. The trigger has been reworked, and it has an oldy-but-goody Herter's 4x12 scope on it.
No feeding problems ever- I have a handful of 4 and 7 shot mags for it but prefer the 4's.
I've never quite understood the crazy power a .22wmr has for its size, but it's more than adequate for farm varmint duty. I sold a 783 many years ago (along with a 9422M) when I went off to college- wished I had both of them back, but the 882ss is an adequate replacement. It's fun to walk with in the woods with the 882 and Smith 648.

You'll have fun replacing that 9422M these days. Every variation of the 9422 that I've seen for sale lately, apparently included a half ounce of pure gold in the deal?

Last Marlin 22 mag bolt rifle I shot, was a brand new one that daddy had bought to teach Jr how to shoot.

Pretty crappy trigger, but Jr and I quickly "learned" to put 'em all into an inch or so at 25 yards, offhand. Dad was still strugglin' with it, when I wandered off.

Must be the paint chips! Amazing, but sort of sad too, what a little ingested lead will do to a person's brain.

Own a older Marlin 783 that was in "like new" condition when I bought it. Functions and shoots very good. The trigger had a strong pull at first but became better the more it was shot, and a new trigger spring was a good thing. Over all I am happy with it.

To be honest, the 783 could shoot circles around that 9422M (as could my friend's 1894M). I'd much rather find a minty 783 than fill someone's pockets for another Winchester.
I recently fooled around with a Henry 22 magnum that was more accurate (although heavier) than the 9422M I sold.
For now, my 882ss is more than adequate.

In my experience, M39 Marlins generally shoot far more accurately than most M9422s, but some folks are big on their Winchesters and I have seen some that shot pretty well.

Can't get past the fugly on Henry 22 lever actions, myself.

I've never shot a M39 .22 Mag, so I can't comment on them, but my 9422M shoots better than my Marlin 882. For the money and for practical purposes, the marlin is fine. Plus it shoots the cheaper Win 40 gr HPs in the grey box best while the 9422M likes the more expensive ammo best.
