I picked up this rifle recently and need some help on identifying what I have and its value.

I believe it is Mannlicher Schoenauer "Magnum" Rifle. It is chambered in .338 Win. Mag. It has factory claw mounts and bases attached to a Hertel & Reuss 4x36 scope, with German post reticle.

Rifle is in excellent shape wood and metal. Rifle looks to have seen very little use.

Need some help. Thanks

Yep. 1958 "Magnum" MCA, pre 1964 for sure. Looks to be in fine shape. Tom Tompkins @ http://mannlicherschoenauer.com/ might be able to give you additional info on values.

Yep that is what it is, and 338 Winchester too. What a find. Looks like it spent most of the last 55 years or so in somebodies closet or gun rack. A fixed 4x and a German # 1 what is not to like. You don't want to know what it costs to fit Claw mounts like that to a rifle. You going to hunt with it? I sure would.

Unusual to have double set triggers on a magnum, but about anything could be ordered. I do not think the recoil pad was factory, so that takes a little away from a purist collector value price. Great find, and not to easy to come by. Assuming you know how to drop the magazine, but if you don't: just push the indented "button" on the floor plate with the eraser end of a pencil, or a bullet if you are in the field. When you press the button in, twist the floor plate clockwise.

Value? Dunno how hard it is to get a hold of these magnums, but I would venture a wild arse guess at 1500-2000.

Does it have a Stoeger import mark on the magazine floorplate?

If so, the recoil pad may have been installed there, or at Griffin and Howe back when the original owner purchased it.

I don't think $2000 would be a fair starting value on this rifle. More along the lines of $2750 and up, especially if it is a non-Stoeger marked import.

No it does not have a Stoeger import mark. The original owner purchased the rifle in Europe when he was stationed there in the Army in the late 50's and early 60's.

I agree with WTM45 as to value, that is a rare caliber in MS's.

What a beauty! Nice addition to any collection.
A letter from the original owner as to how it was obtained and brought to the US will only add to its collector's value.

Yea every bit of 3000 dollars I would thing. But in these hard times Asking and getting are two different things. I would keep it if I had something like that. Just Class pure class. Even thou some purists would not have anything to do with the Post 1939 Mannlicher Shoenauers, or earlier than that when Germany walk into Austria.
