For all the folks here who seem to be a bit bewildered and confused about Ruger's #1 Models here they are:

1-A: This is the model called the Light Sporter. It has a 22" barrel with iron sights and an Alex Henry forend (Yes! That's the one with the groove in it...) Weight: about 7 1/4 lbs.

1-AB: This is also a Light Sporter , but has NO iron sights and a semi-beavertail forend. (Kind of a cross between the 1-A and the 1-B) These were made from 1981-'83 and disfontinued when the #1-RSI was introduced...

1-B: This model is called the Standard Sporter. It has a 26" clean barrel (No sights) Wieght: about 8 lbs.

1-S: This model is called the Medium Sporter . It has a 26" barrel with sights and Alex Henry fore-end. Chamberings Were : 7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag, .338 Win Mag, and .45-70 Gov't... .45-70 has 22" barrel. (Recently the .338 RCM and some pistol chamberings were added with 22" barrels...)

1-RSI: This model is called the International model. It has a 20" barrel with full stock and sights. (.243 Win, 7x57, .270 Win, and .30-06)

1-H: This is Tropical rifle. It has a 24" Heavy bbl with sights. Calibers: .375 H&H and .405 Win. in a fairly heavy barrel. (Weight: Just over 9 lbs.) and .416 Rem, .416 Rigby, .404 Jeffery, .458 Win Mag, .400/.450 Nitro Exp., and .450 NE. w/ Very Heavy barrel (About 10 lbs.) (Also has Alex Henry for-end)

1-V: This is the Varmint Model. This has 24" heavy barrel with beavertail fore-end in .223, .22/250 .243, 6mm Rem, and .25-06. 26" heavy barrel in .220 Swift. (Back in the '70's, a few 1-V's were produced in .280 Rem, 7mm Rem Mag, and .300 Win Mag... ) Ruger catalog lists the weight as 9 lbs, but I believe they are heavier than that. More like: "God-Awful-Heavy"...

Hope this helps some...

MANY THANKS

(I'm afraid to be the only one confused about No1 models here but I'm one of the very rare no1 owners in Belgium and the information is precious to me).

After reading this I'm now bewildered. I have a 1AB in .204 Ruger, at least that's what it says on the box, but that can't be because the 1AB's were discontinued. And if I'm not mistaken there's a 1AB in 25/06 to, at least I remember seeing an ad on the net of one for sale

Tom.

Sorry to confuse you... It's just absolutely impossible to list every configuration of #1's without there being exceptions...

Ruger has made numerous uncatloged runs for certain distributors at different times. The #1-AB and #1-AH in .25/06 Rem were examples of that (They were made for Lipseys...) If you go to: http://www.lipseysguns.com/ there are a list of many of their special runs... Likley more than you know about...

In the case of the #1-AB in .204 Ruger, they were only cataloged for I think 2 years in 2005-'06. Sadly, at least AFAIK, the #1-AB is just NOT popular enough to maintain continual production. frown And that's a bummer to me, 'cause it's my favorite configuration.

Also, I forgot to mention that there is a #1-AH which is nothing more than a #1-AB with an Alex Henry fore-end instead of the semi-beavertail fore-end...

I'm sure others will chime in with more rare variations...

I too really like the AB, and have one in .204 Ruger, and have had a .30-06, and 7mm Rem Mag.

For some reason, must be poor sales, the .204 Ruger can be had for less than any of the other No.1's.

Take a look at GunBroker, the 204 AB's can be had fairly cheaply.

Third from the right.

I was politely challenged here recently about the demise of the .204 Ruger but when CDNN starts selling Ruger No. 1 rifles in .204 Ruger I know it won't be long until it's discontinued.
