If you had a rifle in 270 WSM and it would shoot 130 gr and 140 gr Accubonds with the same accuracy, which would you shoot?
Does it make much difference?

Thanks from Alabama.

No, but I would choose the 130gr. 0.277 caliber and 130gr just seem to go together.

I have used everything from 90 gr hollow points to 160gr NP and I just keep coming back to 130gr.

If you are into longe distance shooting, then a super slik 150gr bullet would serve you better.

I run 130's in mine. Like CRS stated for me the .277 bore equals 130 grain bullet.

Saying that though mine runs 140's almost as fast as the 130's.

I shoot the 140 gr. Accubond thru my 270 WSM, for several reasons:
It's extremely accurate,
It has a high BC (.496)- started out at 70 fps slower than the 140 gr. Barnes TSX, it arrives at 400 yards with nearly identical drop, and higher energy,
It has proven itself to me on game.
The 10 gr. more weight may or may not be a slight advantage when shooting larger critters, but it can't hurt.

I picked the 130AB. I use it for deer and figured a bonded 130gr ought to be big enough for any deer. So far, 6 mature bucks, all shoulder shots, all DRT, all pass throughs. No complaints. But I suspect the results would have been just about the same with the 140's.

I use 140gn Accubonds in my Win M70 .270WSM because I had quite a few failures with lighter 130gn bullets. By failures I mean the bullet just blew to pieces and failed to penetrate the hide of a big mud caked boars. I think the heavier 140gn Pill is a little more stoutly constructed compared to its lighter counterpart.

Here's two good boars I shot last year using 140gn Accubonds

I've taken numerous whitetail and mule deer with 140 grain AB's and a couple with 140 grain XP3's. Both are very accurate in my rifle, much more so than the 130 grain TSX, which is the only 130 grain bullet I have shot through it. The .270 WSM has plenty of pop to shoot the 140's, don't worry about that, but in the end, I'd just shoot the most accurate bullet, whether it be 130 or 140 grain.

I shoot 140 AB's reloads in my 270WSM. Taken elk, moose, bears, whitetails and mulies and the odd coyoto and wolf at various distances. Just prefer the 140gr. If not an Accubond, then the TSX. Reloads are pushing 3260+ ft/sec.

For factory ammo, 140gr AB's or 150 XP3's from Winchester Supreme or the Federal in the 140 AB's / TSX's.

130's over 140's if I was not building a 260 for 120's. I would like Nosler to bring out a 150gr Accubond; they have the heavyweights in .284 and .308 so I think it would be a win especially in the WSM.

.277 140 @ .496

.284 160 @ .531

.308 200 @ .588

I wish Nosler would bring out a 150 AB in both .277 and .284 calibers.

What powder are you using in your .270 WSM?

What are you thumping with the 270 wsm though? Is it a deer, elk, or something else?

I would go with a 130 for deer and the heavier for anything bigger.

dingo,

Nice pigs! Just curious, you said you have had quite a few failures with 130 gr. bullets. Does that include the 130 Accubond? Just curious if it failed too or if it was other 130's that didn't work so well.

130gn SST's were the bullets that failed. I haven't tried 130gn Accubonds,I'm sure they will work OK,I just prefer a heavier bullet on pigs because they are often covered in thick mud. When it comes to penetrating a boars mud caked hide I dont think a fast stepping 130gn bullet works as well as a slighter slower 140gn pill.

I shot only 140 NAB's out of my 270 wsm and it was good to go all around. Killed a few critters and never wanted more for the rifle/bullet.

Retumbo....one of my Tikka T3 LS 270WSM rifles likes 69.0 or 69.5gr the other prefers a Compressed Load of 71.0gr. Federal 215 primers. I get great groupings.

Had other powders to try but was happy with Retumbo (H1000/7828SSC/WS780/MagPro). A hunting buddy bought a T3 in the camo model 270WSM a couple years ago..we went to the range with my 69.0gr reloads to sight in his rifle....and it shot identical to mine...under 0.5" groups at 100m.

My wsm loved H4831sc with the 140's. A stout load would produce 3250 FPS and TREMENDOUS accuracy.
