6.5mm 140 Grain Match Target VLD Item # 26401. I just purchased 300 of these to try in my 246 Win Mag and 6.5-06. for Whitetail Hunting.

I couldn't find the 140 GR Hunting VLD's and was wondering if anyone had tried the Match Bullets on Whitetail and how well the Berger 140 VLD Match Bullets works compared to the Berger 140 VLD Hunting. I will try H4350 and H1000 to start in both Rifles

The present Match VLD's tend to not expand as much as the Hunting VLD's. Personally, one of the things I like about the Hunting VLD's is how quickly they kill, because they destroy more animal innards than any other bullet I've used.

But some other people prefer a smaller hole.

There is no way I'm touching that line....

I guess if you let the air out of the lungs regardless of the bullet they won't go far.

Mule Deer seems like a read a article you wrote on the 6.5-06 and you had your best results with H1000. What kind of accuracy where you getting with the Berger 140 gr and H1000 and did you use Magnum or Standard Primers with your loads?

I run RL22 in my 6.5-06 with great luck. Mine didn't do quite as well with H1000. As far as the bergers, I run only the 140 hunting variety with great luck. Be interested to hear how the target version does for you.

bea175,

3-shot groups from my 6.5-06 run around 1/2-3/4 MOA out to 700 yards, which as far as I've ever shot it for group. I use Winchester Large Rifle primers, which are about the hottest "standard" primer around. I started with WLR's because that's what Nosler used when shooting their data, and they worked so well I've never seen any reason to experiment!

I tend to stick with the Hodgdon Extreme or Ramshot rifle powders for long-range loads, because they're more temperature-resistant than most other powders. It's nice to know the accuracy and muzzle velocity won't change much at all from below zero to 80+ degrees. This is more important than fractional differences in accuracy at 500+ yards--though H1000 is the most accurate powder I've tried with 140's in my rifle, and I've tried a bunch.

I have Ramshot Hunter and H1000. I now use Rel 22, in my 6.5-06 but have loaded nothing but the Nosler 120 gr BT for deer the BT in my rifle groups right at 1/2 inch. Thanks for the info guys. The Bergers should work well on Whitetail.
