Anyone have good load data for 60gr ballistic tip 223? I'm gonna give it a shot in a 20" 1-9" R700.

With heavier bullets in the 223 and 308, Alliant just launched a "new" powder AR Comp....Got some loaded up in the 223 with 60 grain HP Sierra's.... but haven't been able to get to the range to check their accuracy... I used 69 grain load data for it..

I have great success with the max listed load in the Nosler book using Benchmark and CCI 41 primers. I shoot it in all of my AR-15's, 8 and 9 twist, 16"-24" barrels.

Ive never honestly used it with a BT but shot a pile of 60 Gr Vmaxes in front of it in a 1 in 10....superb!

You are on the right track with the 60gr bullet from a 1 in 9 twist bbl, IMO. I have been using BLack Hills 60gr V-max w/ moly ammo in various AR's so twisted for a long time and find they shoot quite well and give me a good balance of speed and longer range high enough BC performance.

Back in the day I thought the 60 gr Hornady spire point was just the ticket for long pokes in a prairie dog town with my 220 Swift. whelennut

I've got some 4895 & re15 on hand. I'll give them a go. No one around me carries tac, benchmark , or any good 223 powder so in gonna have to bite the bullet and go mail order I suppose. Thanks fellas

Do they not carry Ball C-2 even? Or Accurate arms 2200? Those are both great powders in 223, which is NOT a difficult round to load for and get to shoot well.
Hornaday will sell you 60 Grain V'max's already coated in Moly, this is the way I like to shoot them. Great accuracy and lower barrel temps and wear. No need to clean the barrel for a couple thousand rounds, either.

No sir they do not. I'm using the Nosler 60gr ballistic tips, not the vmax . But thanks for the heads up.

Also try 2015 or Tac . You can buy Black Hills loaded with the 60 grain V-max

I use either Varget or Tac in all my 223 loads with 60 gr bullets, Varget usually giving me the best accuracy

I like TAC, however, you noted you can't easily get your hands on any. Have any Varget on hand? Not as easy to work with as TAC, but shoots well and gives good velocity.

The 60 Btip at .223 velocities will likely act more like a controlled expansion bullet than a varmint bullet FWIW...
