I'm having a 24" match chambered Brux #2, 9 twist 7mm Rem Mag barrel fitted on a Mark V.

I'm looking for best loads, 168 gr. VLD and 162 gr. SST/A-Max.

For starters, you can e/mail or call Berger and request all of their 7mm Rem data which they`ll e/mail back to you.

Another great source for loads is at,,,,,,reloadersnest.com.

Towards the upper left on the homepage, you`ll see "Rifles." Click on that. Then find 7mm Rem Mag and click. You`ll find a few 162 gr A-Max loads, some 168 VLD loads plus dozens of other loadings posted there. All individual loads are numbered for easier and future reference. I use that site for loading references.

As usual, start lower and work up.

LoadData has all the Berger loads for that bullet and cartridge.

Be happy to PM you this.

LoadData also has a ton of 162 Amax loads too.

Kinda interesting since I'm just beginning to load those same bullets into my 26" 7RM M70.

I have that data, subscribe to Loaddata.com. Piles of info. I like to research a caliber and get a feel for what others are finding to be their Pet Loads. That gives me a start towards narrowing my choices to the most likely to succeed.

The info I've found so far on line for the 162's and 168's show that there are several favorite powders. H1000, 7828, Retumbo, RL-22, H4831 and H4831sc are among the top contenders, all are in my shop. I would like to narrow it down to one or two most likely powders and go from there.

I know I'll need to do the Berger recommended jump exercise with the 168 VLD's. And there are more than one 162 to check out, the SST, the A-Max and the BTHP. Got a while yet before the gun is ready, but continue the study to select the right line up.

I'm doing my initial work with Magpro.
If it is as good in the 7RM as it is in the 270 and the 280AI then I'll be a very happy man.

What I'm seeing in the published load data for the 7RM is extremely disappointing. I'm equaling or beating the published 7RM data with my 280AI. I'm using published data for the AI too.
That just shouldn't be so given the case capacity advantage of the 7RM.
That silly 61Kpsi SAAMI MAP is surely the culprit.
Sure wish someone would publish 65K data for the 7RM.

I've noticed the same thing. Some have written that their best accuracy was at 2,900 fps or so. I've got a .270 that'll outrun that, and it's accurate. If the WSM's operate at higher pressure, why not the 7mm Rem Mag. Don't Wby's run at higher pressure?

The trick, as I see it, is to find those accuracy nodes at the top of the game, where performance and accuracy co-exist. That's where I want to go.

I've got MagPro, just didn't see it mentioned. I've got Ramshot Magnum and RL-25, too.

This is the type info I'm looking for. Keep me posted.

Thanks,

DF

I just got through trying moly coated 162 A-max bullets in my 7 rem mag. 24" barrel.Bullet seated out as far a mag would allow. Jump was approx .015". Win brass, Fed 215 match

H1000 yielded slowish velocites and wasn't that accurate in this rifle. Retumbo was accurate but velocities were not earthshaking. Best accuracy was 72 grs vel 2970. Worked up to 74 grs for vel of 3050 but groups opened up.

I am going to run with this combo. I wanted to use an extreme powder. Around here temps fluxuate radically. Today's temp range is 65 to 100.

I think you can get more velocity with RL-25 BUT velocities will change with temperature variations.

I've got a can of 3100, too. Just never tried it.

Oops, my bad. I think you were referring to 3100 fps, not a powder type...!

Oh well... I do have that one and it's a slow burner, so who knows...

Hi Bob,

Only tried H1000 and Retumbo. I have an eight pound container of each that I no longer use. I bought them to use with the 6mm-284 with 115s. Now shooting 107s and RL-22. Might as well use them up.
