I've had great results from the Sierra 85 gr HPBT on paper, but haven't seen the terminal effects yet.

Of course if you really want to make sure to kill 'em good, I'd skip over the 6mm Rem and go with the much more powerful 257 Roberts, personally. whistle

Believe me, you'll thank me later wink .

Lots of goos suggestions here, and since deer/antelope are generally very easy to kill most anything will work.

My 6mm Rem loves RL-22 and 100 gr Speer BTSP. Very accurate and deadly on critters.

The only differance between a Bob and a Rem. is the names and .013". Had 2 6mm Rems. wished that I had never sold them. Might go for a AI next time, That or the 6-06.Pending on what action I can find.

yep I always wonder what trio I might prefer: 7x57, 247R, 6mm or 243, 260,308....course with the 308 case there are lots of lesser options wink. Out of this bunch I have a 6mm and a 260 which ....lets face it....really are the best two of any possible combinations. Thats not opinon, thats fact....my fact....but there ya go..

U guyz using the 87 Horn HPBT have you recovered any in deer/lopes and if so how'd they hold up?

Just wondering as it's a bullet I'd like to give a go in my 6/06. Thinking this year in the 6 aught the 87 Berg is gonna be the go to.

Dober I used the old 87 Gr. Interloc FB and it holds up well on both.

Dober, I too used the 87g Interlock flat base, dandy bullet.

In this class, the Nosler 95g Partition with 43.5g of IMR 4350 with a Win primer has worked in several 6 Rem's of mine, 1/2" accuracy and kills real good.

i know i am posting way to late, but, i shoot a 660 rem. in 6mm and my wife shoots a 600 mohawk in 243 our deer season starts aug. 15 - jan. 1 with no limit on bucks and we get to kill a lot of does also. we try many different loads, i kill around 10-15 deer a year. they range from 80-100 pound does to over 200 pound bucks here in s.c. i have already killed a 10 point 162 pound this year, my first for the year. i used a 85gr. sierra bthp his legs went out from under him on the crack of the rifle. we both have used this bullet on many deer and the result is always the same, instant death or one or two jumps and it's over. nothing beats shot placement and real world exp.

IM loading for a 6mm remington right now and have had good luck with 95gr BT's and RL-22.
BTW Someone mentioned the Hornady SST being tougher than a BT. That sure hasn't been my experience at all, but this is limited to mostly 30 caliber. The 180 gr , 30 cal BT is about the toughest C&C bullet I have ever used.

I'm guessing the 85gr Sierra worked for the OP, there hasn't been a reply for a while. That bullet has shot well from every 6mm and 243 I've tried it in and has been good on terminal performance. It has a pretty poor BC and I shoot alot in the wind. That is the only reason I switched bullets.

here i is. it's an old thread and since then have tried a bunch of stuff. pretty much settled on h4350 and rel15 for powders. right now i kind of stuck on the 70 grain balistic tip.
the load i settled on last year for the hunt was a 95gr ballistic tip and varget.
i have gotten excellent performance out of 87gr berger vld's and h4350, the 70gr b-tip and 4350, and now the 95gr b-tip.
both of my rifle's like the loads and shoot pretty much the same groups
3600 from the 22 inch mdl70 and 3500 from the 18" mdl 7, 3300 with the 87gr berger, and 3100 with the 95gr b-tip
got no shot last year with the 6mm. i made my kill last year with my 270 on the first day, and toted the 6mm the rest of the hunt without the sight of a doe to try it out on

Did they or do they?

Thanks

My 2 Rem. 700 6mm's don't like reloads with 95gr Nosler Partitions or Ballistic Tips
They both Shoot about 2" groups @ 100yds with my best handloads.
Both rifles will shoot sub 1/2" groups with 85gr Sierra HP's & IMR 4350, though.

A buddy told me to try Remington's 100gr Corelock Factory ammo. Both rifles shot sub 1" 5-shot groups @ 100 yds.

Both My 6mm's also LOVE Hornady Factory Custom Ammo with 95gr SST bullet!
1/2"- 5 shot groups @ 100yds !!! + they kill like Thor's Hammer.

I still hand load Varmit ammo for my 6mm's, but for hunting deer or Antelope, I just go to Cabelas & buy the Hornady Custom Ammo with 95gr SST's. I dont shoot all that many deer with my 6mm's, any more, so 1 box of Hornady Factory Ammo lasts me a long time. I mostly deer hunt now with my .264 Win Mag.

What's wrong with 1.5 inch groups???

Most of my rifles shoot inch to 1.5, and they kill perfectly well out to 400 yards or so. A few go under the magic inch mark- and some of those I don't use cuz I just don't have confidence in their terminal performance. But that's just me.

Knowing the exact range "out there" and your ballistics drop is far more important than a half- or even a whole inch of accuracy, within reason.
,
Unless you can get tighter groups of course. smile

You ain't gonna be able to hold tighter than the rifle shoots in the field anyway - but confidence and "all the help I can get" is never out of place.

I have found that neck-sizing-only of fire-formed brass produces a noticable increase in accuracy - sometimes a spectacular one. I pretty much do this to all my reloads, especially belted magnums. You do need to run every single round thru your action to ensure chambering, tho, pre-hunt.

Good luck on finding that perfect load.
