My little brother gave me a 35 Remington a few weeks ago.I have had one of these on the back burner for a long time.So it is much appreciated. I eventually plan on restocking it or refinishing it but in the meanwhile I would like to scope it and take it hunting. The scope I have in mind is a Leupold 4x with a German # 1 . Any other ideas?

Lever gun I spose?

I'd get an older Leo 3x and rock on.

neat old gun, my Dad's old 336 was one of the first guns I toted in the field. I had an old Weaver K5 on it, now that scope was a piece of work.

I have three Weaver 3X's and they really look at home on a lever gun. I love the post and cross hair. Use the top of the post on the 100 yard target and then the crosshairs will be on at about 200-250 yards depending on the era your scope was made. The crosshair will shoot between 3-6" over the post tip depending on when it was made. Older Posts were courser and higher then the later generations.

Sort of like a simple version of the Ballistic-plex

It is a nice little gun and the fact my brother gave it to me means a lot to me as well. It should do rather nicely where I hunt those WD's. I had a Leup 1-4 varix-II but I seem to have misplaced it mad

I've got a 336 in .30-30. I put a Leupie Vari-X III 1.5-5x20 on it with the heavy duplex. I put the same scope with a regular duplex on my 444 Outfitter.

And yeah, a post and crosshair is the bomb for leverguns!

The 35 Remington...one of those cartridges that performs waaay better than it should! I've always had a soft spot for it.

Mark,

What is a Weaver K5?

Do you mean a KV?

Any of the choices mentioned would work great on your Marlin 35. If you are going to be stalk hunting in heavy cover or shooting at running game, you might want something a with a little less magnification on the lower end than 4X. It would work for most situations, but I prefer to be able to go down to at least 2.5x when I might get a really close shot. The best scope I have ever found for the purpose is a Leupold 1.5-5X with a German #4.

Leupold Rifleman or VX-I 2-7X33
Bushnell 3200 2-7X32
Nikon Prostaff 2-7X32
Redfield 2-7X33
Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5X32

All these work great on Marlins.......

Be careful using the post and crosshair reticle if youre used to a standard crosshair, at least if the crosshair runs below the very tip of the post.

I had an older Waver 3X with a P&CH like that on a Marlin .30-30. When aiming in a hurry your eye naturally wants to follow the crosshair and put the intersection of the post and crosshair on the target instead of the very tip of the post as intended especially if you are used to using a standard crosshair. It takes some practice to get used to putting the tip of the post on target. Not an impossible task but something you have to consciously think about and in a fast situation you might forget.

I replaced that 3X on my Marlin .30-30 with a regular ol Leupold 4X and find it works just great.

I've got a little Bushy 3200 1.5-4.5x32 in QD rings that I like a lot on my 336T. (a 30-30)

I had a Weaver K 2.5x20 on mine, and also a Leupy 4x28. Both seemed to do the job with no real complaints.

As for a variable, I like VX3 1.5-5x20 and VX2 1-4x20 on lever guns. I have owned a couple of each.....

A few years back, I picked up several 1.5x5x20 Simmons ProDiamond shotgun scopes on closeout. That's what I use on my Marlin levers. Shotgun scopes are very rugged.

I like VX3 1.5-5x20 and VX2 1-4x20, also.

Got a Weaver K4 to put on the 1967 336C .35 Rem. I bought for my Dad. He loves it and so do I.

I have a Leupold 1.5-5 with the fine crosshairs on mine. This setup is my ideal big woods rifle, and believe me, I have tried countless other options.
