At first, carp were a big problem in the lake.

Then they dumped some muskies in there to control the carp.

For a while, the muskies were catch-and-release only, but now (I think) they're catch, scale, and filet.

Trout? I don't know. Sorry.

Something else that I just learned no gas motors on the lake (only electric or "Armstrong" propulsion).

I am getting more and more excited about this trip. We might show up early and camp/fish at the lake for a day or three. I have never even SEEN a Muskie, always wanted to fish for them. Time to buy some Muskie leaders and various Muskie Spoons, eh? Will have to figure out how to rig a top side carrier for a small boat so that we can also carry one of the Motorcycles in the bed of the rig. Our trailer rack only holds two, and I want to bring all three. DR200, KLR650 and the ROKON.

Mark they have rental boats with electric motors at the lake. I don't remember how much they were, but it wasn't very much I don't think.
They have tiger muskies in the lake and I think they have a slot size for keepers. Gary/azcoues fished for them, and I had planned to but never ended up doing it

That is VERY good to know as it saves us a lot of headache and backache trying to load and unload a borrowed boat.

I think that Snuffy's Tackle Shop, on the road to the lake, is the outfit that rents the boats.

575-773-4672

I have no idea what time they open and close. Probably different seasons, different hours.

The 'phone book lists the same 'phone number for "Snuffy's Sports HQ, Steakhouse, & Saloon." laugh

At first the lake was troubled with carp as Ken said, then they introduced and cross bred Walleyed Pike to try to control the carp. They soon nicknamed the cross bred fish CoWalls. It worked fairly well, but the CoWalls were not agressive enough so the CoWalls were cross bred with Muskies which led to the fish called the CoWallSkis. The only problem with the CoWallSkis were agressive enough it was they just had to be tought how to swim......Apologies Ken, couldn't help myself.

That yarn comes from a burlesque letter (presented in Mad Comics fashion as "official") purportedly from Michigan F&G.

The story was that F&G fisheries wanted to improve the sporting qualities of the Coho salmon by crossing it with the wall-eyed pike.

But the Co-Wal cross didn't exhibit enough fighting spirit, so they crossed the Co-Wal with the muskellunge and had to teach the Co-Wal-Ski how to swim.

Old yarn, still as good as ever! laugh
