I've never been able to find any WSM ammo loaded by Hornady. Do they sell any WSM ammo? Why not?

Hornady doesn't produce WSM ammo.
I suspect the reason why is Hornady in partnership with Ruger developed several Ruger Compact Magnum (RCM) cartridges.

That's what I assumed as well. It's a shame, as I really like most of their products, but can't get it for WSM's.

They don`t. But I`m guessing that there could possibly be issues with patents and permission, and that`s why Hornady won`t touch the 300 WSM.
For example and from what I gather, Ruger was asked by Rick Jamison (I guess the developer of the 300 WSM) on or around late `06, to either stop chambering the 300 WSM in the MK2 or pay some royalties. Ruger chose to stop chambering the 300 WSM.
My guess is, is that possibly the 300 WSM is a proprietary cartridge and for anyone to offer something new with that round and market it, one might need permission plus pay sales royalties on top of that.

They are just missing out on selling a fast growing popular (WSM) line of ammo because they don't want to pay royalty and harm thier own (RCM) market share, which doesn't seem like very much to me. In the past few years every hunting camp I have been in had some hunters using WSM and I have yet to see a single hunter using RCM. I wonder if Joyce Hornady were still alive he would have serviced the public needs or taken the proprietary turn?

That could be true too. Either Hornady won`t market the 300 WSM ammo because it conflicts in their mind with the RCMs, or they need permission to market 300 WSM factory ammo which would probably incur royalties having to be paid.

Try the Winchester ammo, my A-Bolt 300WSM shot way under an inch and better than my handloads. Either the Failsafes or Powerpoints shot equally well, they were 180s.

Thanks guys. I didn't think they did and didn't know why.
My 270 WSM likes the Winchester XP3 130 gr ammo but I would like to try the Superformance in a SST if they offered it.

Hornady did one great thing Winchester never did, they put a .338 bullet in a short mag case...
