Thank you in advance.

I have yet to see a new one, but Marlin manufactured in North Haven CT for the years of it's existence. Remington owned the company for several years before moving them, however the guns didn't suffer (from what I have seen and read). The problems came from moving production to the Remington plant in NY - birthing issues of new people and different machinery. The barrel marking will be your clue; Marlin proof's were marked "JM" and the address line. As I haven't seen a Marlin made in NY yet I am unsure of how they are address marked and proofed now, but it won't be the same.

The serial number will start with MR on a new Marlin made under Remington ownership. The barrels may still be marked North Haven, CT even though the gun was assembled in NY.

The serial number starts with MR, not RM does it not? You are correct, the barrel roll mark still shows North Haven, I suppose they have not made a new poll stamp yet, or they are still using some left over barrels. As said, the little JM proof stamp on the barrel just ahead of the receiver is the best indicator of a Marlin made Marlin.

I've seen some MR serial numbered rifles with JM stamped on the barrel. The BATF allowed Remington to use up all the old barrels. Personally I don't care if Remington made it, as long as I can personally inspect before I buy. Many seem to hope that Remington will fail in this venture. IMO it will be the end of America's finest levergun if they do.

I agree with Swampman700.In my opinion Marlin is the finest bar none when it comes to lever actions.I believe given time Remington will get all there ducks in a row and start producing a good lever gun.Time will tell.

I think there is too much unfounded negativity about Remington rifles out there.

Not sure why that is, because in the 50 years I've been using and working on them I've never seen a single problem.

Hey, if you're willing to accept $hit then buy an off brand. I'll stick with Remington.

Remington is having the typical problems due to the transfer of Marlin manufacturing - they will eventually get it worked out, just like Winchester eventually worked out the quality issues of the early Post-64 firearms.

Not sure why that is, because in the 50 years I've been using and working on them I've never seen a single problem. On the campfire I noticed a lot of folks can not seperate Swamptroll and Remingtons. They let there dislike for swampy affect how they feel about Remingtons. I hope Remington don't do something mean to swampy for ruining there business.

I'm just happy that people dislike me. That means I'm on the right path. Nobody dislikes someone who only tells them what they want to hear.
