The Ruger 77s in 7x57 that I've owned have had longer/deeper throats than the single Ruger 77 in 280 that I've owned, but the difference in accuracy wasn't significant enough to determine what factor was most influentual. They have all been 1.5+/- MOA shooter and have had luck of the draw factory barrels. There was no meaningful difference between the barreled action shot in a standard 77R stock vs. the same barreled action shot in an 77 RSI mannlicher once I installed a neoprene 0-ring at the muzzle.

Nice Rifle!
I wanted one just like yours but no luck finding one locally.
I did find a Ruger 77 RSI stainless in 7mm-08 with factory box and manual over in B`HAM.
The RSI`s are handy hunting rifles!

Lipsey's Wholesale in Baton Rouge, LA, is the the wholesaler that contracts with Ruger for several limited, non-cataloged, runs of Ruger rifles and revolvers. These a small runs, less than 500 units, so an average of less than 10 units per State, so it wouldn't be unusual not to find them on dealers' shelves.

I will try to post some pictures...

It has been over 28 years since I have owned a 7x57.

I am thinking about stoking it with Hornady 139 grain GMX and Nosler 175 grain Partitions. Can anyone recommend favorite powders for these bullet weights?

I am hoping to get 2500 - 2600 fps with the 139 grain bullets and 2350 fps with the 175 grain bullets.

I like that rifle! Alot!

Bet that rifle would sell pretty well also in a 260 or even 6.5x54 smile

No doubt these Lipsey ltd. runs are small, hope they keep coming with more, as we have seen finally the 250 in this model and the K1A they promised a few years back, and many other models that are uniquely attractive. I know they sold 44 special Blackhawks and some even in SS.

Anyone interesting should log on the site periodically to see whats coming. http://www.lipseys.com

My M77MkII and recently-manufactured #1A both have shorter throats than either my pre-warning M77R or my M77ST. Maximum loads are definitely NOT interchangeable! The R can handle the most powder of them all, but shoot one of those in the MkII and it gets all kinds of unhappy.

Mule Deer once wrote in an article that H4350 is a good all-around powder in the 7x57, but H4831 shows an advantage with bullets of 160 grains and heavier. My experience mirrors that, but I tend to simplify things and stick with H4350 in all the weights I shoot, from 145 through 175 grains. My loads are plenty accurate, and the deer in the freezer don't mind. smile

I suggest the following loads in Ruger rifles chambered for 7x57, working up carefully, of course:

145gr Speer Hot Cor, 49gr H4350
160gr Speer Hot Cor, 46gr H4350
175gr Hornady spire point interlock, 45gr H4350

If you can't kill deer with those, it ain't the gun's or load's fault.

Our God reigns.

SRF......nice one.
I have a tang safety RSI in 7/08 with the older Leupold compact 2-7x.

I see you listed the 358 Win down below.......i surely wish that Ruger had produced the RSI in 358. I had to settle for the M77 RS in 358.

Good purchase.

Thanks to all who replied.

My Internet connection has been down, just got back online.

Gus,

I have not weighed it, but Lipsey's lists it at 7 pounds.
It is light, hefts about like my Winchester M70 Extreme Weather .308, both without scopes at the moment.
My Extreme Weather is about than 6.75 pounds.
The balance point of this RSI is about 2 inches back from the floor plate hinge.

--

WranglerJohn,

You can pick up the empty boxes for a buck at the local tobacco shop.
I like those wood boxes with the sliding top, I have several of them.
They hold lots of my gun stuff.

--

65BR,

I like the rifle, it just has a few warts.
It is a handsome rifle, when one does not look real close.
I think a lot of looneys on here would just work it over themselves.
When I have it bead-blasted, I will get the gunsmith to work it over.
If I wanted it for collector value, then I would send it back.
For now, I am just going to shoot it.

--

Joe,

It really is shiny, you can see the glare in some of the pictures even though it was an overcast afternoon.
Bead-blasting will kill the glare.
I don't worry about bead-blasted stainless barrels or rifles spooking when hunting.
However, I have to agree that bead-blasted or matte finished blue really looks nice.

--

AMRA,

I originally wanted a Lipsey's 7mm-08 and was outbid on GunsAmerica recently by the only one I have ever seen for sale.
Then I was outbid for a Lipsey's 6.5x55 on GunBroker that had been accurized.
So, I pounced on this one when it came along!

Lipsey's has a new site dedicated to their special runs:

Got it covered with the 22 LR, 30-06, and 12 gauge.
The rest are just for fun.

If Lipsey's ever puts out one of these stainless RSI rifles in 35 Whelen or 358 Winchester, I will get to the nearest dealer that can order me one. If the 35 Whelen gets a 1:12 inch twist, I will RUN!
