Just looking for a little help on ammo selection for this rifle, before I spend a ton of money on trying to find out which grain and or bullet it likes.. So far I tried the remington 33 grain and it was terrible at 100 yds.. What should be a reasonibe group for this rifle at 100?

A friend of mine has one and I will ask...not sure how much experimenting he has done so far with it.

As to accuracy, my CZ .22s are regularly shooting well under 2" with the ammo they like...some groups under an inch at 100.

Having bought and experimented with just about every brand and weight of .22 Magnum made I can only say that every gun is a law unto itself. I have had three Mags, a Marlin Levermatic, H&R HandiRifle and Savage 24DL that will all put round after round of Winchester original 40 grain HPs in the center of a 1" patch at 50 yards...like 3/8" groups. Change to one of the new high velocity HPs like CCI TNT and the groups open up to 1.5-2".

The Ruger 77/22 is just the opposite...three rounds touching with the TNT at 50 and 1" groups with the 40 grain ammo.

Once you find what it likes buy a case and be done with it...

You'll be hard pressed to find any more accurate than Winchester supreme 34gr jhp . Of the three mags I've had it was always on top.

Mine likes the CCI a bit better, though I'll admit it is a bit sporadic and hasn't lived up to my expectations.

Have any of the posters so far put up wind flags when testing at 100 yards?

I try everything out at 50 yds first....regardless of caliber..

if it won't shoot well at 50, it certainly isn't going to get better at 100...

with a rim fire, if it does well at 50, I move out to 75 then 100, then 125, 150 to 200 if it is a rim fire magnum and I have a scope capable of utilizing it at past 125 yds..

I have a 22. LR in CZ 452 that is a tack driver...

in 22 Mag, I have a Ruger, that throws the premium ammo all over the place... put in an old CCI 40 grain FMJ or HP, and it is a tack driver right out to 200 yds..

I practice with it at times, using a target that is a black silhouette of a prairie dog on an 8 x 14 sheet of paper, that I run off the computer printer...

and then off the bench, I shoot at that with a 4 or 6 power scope...

yeah, its pushing both me and the rifle... but that is what practice is for..

but the cheap CCI 40 grainers do the best by a long shot..
hitting in the black 18 out of 20 shots is not unusual..

do the premium stuff and hitting the paper 5 out of 20 shots can be a miracle at times...

go figure, but that is with a factory barrel...

I am sure if I upgrade to say a Green Mountain barrel, then the opposite would happen..

but until that time comes, the factory Ruger barrel likes the older cheaper stuff...

If you are looking for a 452 you better decide fast...the folks over on RFC say that they have been discontinued and all that CZ is turning out is the switch barrel 455s...

That being said there doesn't seem to be any complaints with the 455s...

Tried Rem and Win ammo, mine like the Armscor HP's the best. A ragged group at 50yards.

My friend's 452 Magnum is scary good with the Hornady 30gr. Vmax loads, like 5 shots under a dime at 100 yards good.

Mine does best with the Win. 40gr. JHP load. Typical 100yd. groups run about an inch. Sometimes better, occasionally worse.

The CCI maxi mag hollow points do very well in my 452. The solids are close behind. After that it's the Winchester. The CCI shot well enough that at some point I gave up on trying to find the Remington premium load to try. Everyone around here was in thrall to the 17 and couldn't be bothered to order in different WMR loads so I've just stuck with the CCI. When wind and my ability cooperate it's an easy 1 inch shooter

Don't over look Mule Deer's questions about wind conditions. It will push those little pills all over the place when there is little apparent wind speed. There's one range I won't use because of bizarrro wind conditions that seem to be the norm. It has pushed around bullets from 75 to 165 grains to the point where it wasn't possible to check the zero.

I bought one in 2009 and sighted it in at 50 yards. Three holes touching and never looked back. If I hold it right and squeeze the trigger like a good Marine does it will always shoot the eye out of a squirrel out of the tallest tree. It loves FMJ 40 gr. CCI bullets. Bought some Fiocci 39 gr. soft points that look good have yet to get to shoot them in it. I do not like HP of any kind and don't shoot them. I have the 452 American with the Pentex Light Seeker 2-7x I think 20mm scope with the ballistic rect. I think its one of the nicest 22 Mags. on the market. Sorry to hear they are not going to keep making them.

I don't have a 22 mag because I always felt they were not very accurate in general. I do have CZ 452 22LR that is crazy accurate. The CZ, to me, appears well built and the 452 has a reputation for accuracy out of the box. So, if I were to buy a 22 mag, it would be a CZ. My CZ out shoots my 77/22, 69A, 541, and 94/22!

My own CZ Mag prefers 40 grain Win HP's and goes right around an inch at 100. It shoots everything under 2,5", and most ammo well under 2.0".

My CZ 17HMR is similar but likes the Hornady VMAX the best.

If I had a CZ that was terrible with a brand of ammo I'd be a bit worried. Any update?

My CZ Mannlicher stocked .22 Magnum prefers the original 40 grain bullets the the lighter weights. I have a particular lot of Remington 40 grain hollow points that will usually put five under an inch at 100 yards. While checking zero today I fired five and the third shot hit a willow branch that blew in the way at the shot. Hence the flyer.

Sorry it is so dark but the flash wouldn't work at the setting I was using.

The CZ is obviously the bottom rifle, the top one is my Remington Custom shop model 7 .257 Roberts.
