Here's a pic of a real slick pre 64 , 338 Win. I used to own. A good friend of mine has it now. It used to belong to Bill Williamson, Fair Chase Safaris. Someone had cut the barrel to 23" which actually made it real handy. I had it sighted in with Federal 210gr Nosler partitions and the old gun would shoot 1 1/4" with those. No telling where that gun has been.

I like that stock too. A 7mm wsm won't fit in that long action bugger though shocked

Sendero, here's what you need for a short (WSM) action:

I've bought from USPatriot and he's good to go as well. Heck of a nice guy to do business with...

Well, I bought a sweet std wt 30-06 yesterday. Figured I'd show and tell that one too blush It's a last year pre 64 (1963) and I'll tell you, quality is susposed to be low on these. I call BS on that. They must of been having a great day that day when this one went out the door grin. Quality is very nice (see pics):

The first time I saw this rifle (more than a year ago) I almost bought it, but put it in my back pocket (back of my mind) because I bought my 9.3x62mm from the guy instead. This one is all original except for the pachmayr decelerator installed frown...Pretty dang clean though, the pictures don't do it justice...

BSA - Now that you have a new std weight you have no need for the fwt that's taking up so much room. Right...? Let me help you with that. wink

Ha ha, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I don't think there's another pre 64 30-06 this side of the Mississippi that shoots as good as yours grin. I can't wait to see it in action this year on your antelope hunt. That is if you still plan on using it.

Thanks buddy. I think I'll leave this one the way it is. The barrel channel and inletting is just about perfect. However, that may change and I might go wild on it like I did with EricM's rifle. I put a chit load of time into that one. Pillar bedded/glass bedded and freefloated the barrel and still kept it looking almost original to the unsuspecting eye. His is a shooter to say the least and some of my better work:

(Epoxied in this dummie forend screw, for looks)

His rifle shot like this for me:

After I sold Eric my std wt 30-06 I went to work on getting my fwt 30-06 to shoot. I just bedded it without pillars and it shoots pretty good too:

It's a shooting sombitch even with elcheapo bullets grin......Yeah, maybe I'll atleast bed the new std wt wink

Here is a picture of the Model 71 that I picked up today. It is an all original, short tang, standard rifle, but is in about 98% condition. It was manufactured in 1939.

Have a look.

Hey BSA!

I know where there is 1938, long tang carbine for sale.

It's a little too rich for my blood, but thought YOU might be interested. wink
