Ok, guys, I'm a brand new poster to this forum and am an avid camper and backpacker. I own several knives, nothing extravagantly expensive, however I enjoy fine quality.

While digging around in my collection, I remembered a few I've inherited from my dad like a Schrade Old Timer 1560t, of which I love, and this one made by 'Sharp':

MY question is, does anyone know who 'Sharp' is?? I cannot find them online or in any forum because we all know it's a needle in a haystack search when looking for "Sharp knives" lol! I've tried several variations, but alas, no dice.

Heeeeelp! I'd love to know more about this knife because quite honestly its one of the best knives I've got!!

Welcome to the Campfire, AJ.

This ain't much, but in case you missed it, ------> Sharp Knives

Wish I could be of more help, but I'm not at all familiar with that brand.

.... Your little Schrade knife has become quite collectible, it seems. smile

The USA made Old Timers are wonderful knives if you don't have to have stainless. I have a 7ot cave bear that I have had for shoot, probably around 15-20 years and it takes a scary sharp edge very easily with my Lansky. That sharp knife looks to be of decent quality. Does it take a good edge?

Walker, thank you for the post! I do remember my dad buying them at K-Mart whenever I was kid, so that makes perfect sense that it would've been a "K-Mart" brand. However the knife keeps a GREAT edge, full tang, I've not taken it out of its sheath in years and it shaved the hair off my hand without any effort on my part. Its 440 steel, of which I'm pretty happy about because I was looking for a good fixed blade camper.

K3yston3, I totally agree about Old Timers are great knives. Its been used for years and still gets crazy sharp, holds an edge pretty nicely. I had no idea how collectible it had become until I started researching.

Thanks for the info, this has really helped! I may keep this Sharp as a backup and seek out a good fixed blade under $50. Any opinions?

I'd use the Sharp knife and think of your father everytime you use it.

It really depends on your specific needs, AJ. You mentioned that you like camping and backpacking, so maybe you're looking to keep weight to a minimum? Any special issues to consider, regarding terrain or climate? Would a "general utility" knife be most useful, or do you want to specialize more toward fishing / small game / big game ... or maybe "bushcrafting"?

Some inexpensive, but very useful knives (IMO):
