This year it is the 16" barrel stainless Marlin 336 carbine with a 1.5-4x scope on top......

.......Or the .270 with a fixed 4x.......

.......Or the Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag......

We'll see after my last few range sessions before the season starts.

That is way beyond my level of loony!
But someday I would like to get a custom barrel and stock.

Thinking real hard about a 25-06 or 270 in a Kimber 84L, that would be sweet.

Yeah, no kidding!

My .358 M7 is perfecto for how/where/what I hunt. It'll almost certainly do the deed again this year.

The CENTER will hold.

Mine will be my new tang safety M77 .308win. Picked her up this summer nib from 1982 and found an 80s vintage bushnell 4x to go on top.

Marlin 336 in .35 Remington w/1.5-5 Leupold
Savage 99A Saddle Gun in .308 w/1.5-5 Leupold
Remington 141 in .35 Remington w/1.5-5 Leupold
Marlin 1895G in .45-70 w/1-4 Leupold
And when I leave the Big Woods for the farm country where longer shots are possible:
Winchester M-70 Featherweight classic in .30-06 w/2.5-8 Leupold
Remington M-600 in .308 w/ 2-7 Nikon Monarch
Remington M-600 Mohawk in .243 w/ 2-7 Redfield Revolution
Ruger M-77 in .358Win. w/2-7 Leupold
Remington M-7 in .300RSAUM w/2-7 Leupold
Trying to pick one favorite is impossible for me, they will all see duty this year, although the Marlin 336 in .35 will see the most use in the woods, and the Winchester Featherweight in .30-06 will be with me if I think there may be a chance at a real long shot(it's so accurate with the first two shots out of a cold barrel it's scary).

I will only get to make one trip this year where I will be hunting a buck myself. I will be shooting my Ruger M77 SS in 338Fed that I fitted to a Ruger Ultra light stock, topped w/ a Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x40 w/ DOA reticle, shooting 160TTSX over 51gr of AA2230 at ~3030fps:

The rest of the time I will be with my son at our lease. He is 16 and never taken a really nice buck. He has been hunting with me off & on since he was 7, now he's 16. It's only been in the last 2 years that he's gotten serious. We hunted hard all last year, but he never saw a deer he liked. While I certainly expect to have a chance to see a nice deer, I can't bring myself to shoot any bucks until he gets his (feels like I would be shooting his deer...).

When I go out on these trips I'm packing my Benelli R1 carbine in 30-06 topped w/ a Trijicon 2.5-10x56. I restrict myself to thinning our severly over abundant feral hog & coyote populations:

I'll shoot three, but the little .243 w/85gr TSX's will probably see the most action.
