Anybody use this bullet on deer sized animals out of a .257 Bob or .25-06? What kind of terminal performance does it give? I've got a unopened box of these begging me to try them.

I have used them for deer and antelope from my 25-06 at 3400 fps. Never a problem, never recovered one. I know a guy who hunts moose with his 99 savage with them in 250 Savage.

You're going to get a lot of favorable reviews on this bullet. I've only shot a couple of Texas does with it, but was quite pleased. This one and the 115 Partitions are my favorite .257 Bob bullets.

I agree with Arns9, the 100 g. Horn and 115 NPT are the ones I've settled with for my 257 Roberts.

I recovered a 100 g. Horn from an antelope doe shot at long range and the bullet weighed 75 grains. I've also used the 100 g. Nosler Ballistic tip on antelope and the single bullet recovered weighed 61 grains. The Hornady load was about 3200 fps but the range was well over 300 yards. The Ballistic tip was about 2900 fps and at about 200 yards, shot was on point of front shoulder and ranged through the body at an angle and bullet was just under the skin behind the off ribs. Both recovered bullets are nicely mushroom shaped. Put a 100 g. Hornady just behind the right shoulder of a fat doe at about 150 yards, bullet exited in the middle of the left shoulder. Animal jumped, ran a short distance and fell on the exit side. Blood ran down the bare hill for over 20 feet from the exit wound.

I went to 115 g. NPTs because of reputed better wind resistance of the heavier bullets. But for relatively small animals like pronghorns, the 100 g. bullets seemed to work just as well (in my small sample of 4 with 100 g. and 2 with 115 NPT).

Killed several does and a couple decent bucks with that bullet in the Roberts and .250 Savage at ranges from 100 to 200 yards.. All have penetrated completely and dropped the game in short order. Also dropped an antelope doe at 375 yards with the Roberts, pass through and she only made it 30 yards or so. Reminds me I need to stock up again.

Thanks guys, I like what I'm hearing. Been shooting the 115 NBT in my Bob and 100g TSX in the '06. Friend had his Bob stolen and gave me all the reloadins stuff for it so I got the 100g Horn. and also some 100g NBT. He said the 100g NBT was VooDoo on our small So. ARK. whitetails (avg. buck 140-150 lbs.) I'll have to give them a try. Most of my shots are under 200 yds. and a lot of those are under 100 yds.

I've shot one whitetail doe with a 100gr Hornady from a .250 AI. MV was about 3140. Silver dollar sized exit and soup in between. I like 'em.

Four antelope; .25-06, 150-350 yards, one shot each, no bullets recovered, no real meat loss, lungs destroyed. The last one I hit the front leg bone, both lungs and top of the heart. Lungs were soup and exit wound behind far shoulder about the size of a quarter.

I've used them on whitetail and antelope in a .25-06. They are a good bullet for game of that size. My rifle doesn't particularily like them, but they shoot about 1.25 MOA.

I know guys use them on elk, but I don't know if they would make it through a shoulder or not. My guess is probably not. I've had them exit on deer and antelope and I've had them lose their jacket as well.

Arns9,

You were right plenty of favorable reviews. Looks like I need to work up a load for this bullet. Thanks, guys this is the kind of feedback I was looking for.

My .25-06 likes 56.5 gr of RL-22 with this bullet and a CCI 200.

They're my go-to bullets in my 257 AI and have always performed extremely well.

Pass-throughs even on quartering-to shots, large exits.

My load runs 3250 fps and is quite accurate (reliably sub-MOA). I would suggest this as a "go to" bullet in any quarterbore.

If you're looking for a great starting point propellent-wise for the Bob w/ this projectile, IMR-4350 & Ramshot Hunter are where I'd go.

Good luck!

I haven't used the Hornady 100 in my 25's but have used it a bunch of times in my 6mm Rem and it kills deer very well

They have held up well, and done the job on hogs as well as deer in my '06. Haven't had one come apart, and haven't recovered one (although I don't dig around on the piggies much). Shots have ranged from 45 to 200 plus yards, and everythin has died quickly.

If there's any 117grainers in that pile of stuff don't be afraid to use them. My Dad used them for years and killed a trin car load of deer out of his 257AI. He would use no other bullet for Texas deer, hogs, and varmits. Just like the100grainer...instant death. powdr

I've shot a lot of deer (whitetails and muleys) and antelope with them. Most come from the 100g bullet. They are one of the best performing bullets I have used for this size of game. They are one of my most accurate bullets in the 100g and 117g weights as well. All shots out of my 25-06 have been complete pass throughs except for one. That was a big whitetail buck bounding away at about 200 yards. That one penetrated back to front, breaking the pelvis, clipping three ribs from the spine on the left, clippiung three ribs on the right and then lodging in the hide on the brisket. That bullet was perfectly mushroomed. I didn't weigh it but it looked like about 80% weight retention. It has been rare for a deer to wiggle a muscle after impact. Most were shot high behind the shoulder and dropped on the spot. I just could not expect more from a bullet. I hate to write this because I love these bullets and I don't want them to raise the price or to start selling them in the measly 50 count boxes.
