I have a pair of Muck chore boots that I've been using for woods walking for about 10 years. They have lasted well, and are very comfortable, BUT,
The soles don't have very good traction on steep, muddy deer trails.

Am wanting to get new rubber boots with the BEST traction I can get.

Even thought about a pair of Whites pac corks, but the're $220.00

Anyone tried the Irish Setter mud boots or the LaCross mud lites?

Any others I'm missing ???

Thanks for the input!

Nobody else walks steep, muddy trails ?

I wear irrigation boots pouring concrete at work and irrigating but that's it. For hiking I wear boots that have support and temperature control. So can't really give advise to the particular issue.

But if you are looking for a Pac boot, Sierra Trading Post has some really good deals. Sign up for their email and get offers daily for 20 to 45% off.

Bogs boots offer a hunting boot with good insulation and a couple of pretty good soles for traction. Not cheap though.

I hunt like the Bog Boots. If you need real traction in mud and slick conditions get some Extratuf boots with caulks. Those will take you anywhere. http://www.woodsindustrialsupply.com/store/footwear/
They also come in AirBob soles.

Hoffman makes some winter/pac boots with purtty good traction under $200. Working in mountains and/or construction for several decades has taught me when it comes to boots usually you get what you pay for. If ya want good boots, they ain't cheap.

Thanks for the advice!

Do you think the airbobs would work for slick, steep trails?

Would they clean out enough to keep traction?

Thanks! Virgil B.

Went shopping today..

Picked up a pair of Irish Setter mud boots at Cabelas.

Got to the counter and they rang up at $169.00 Instead of $149.00 that I saw on the ones I wanted.

Then we noticed they were 800 gram insulated. ($20.00 more)

The cleark says you can have 'em for the 149.00 price if you don't want to go back to the boot dept.

Anyway, Got a great deal on a nice pair of good traction boots...

Tried 'em out, and they work GREAT on steep muddy trails!!

Thanks for the advice! Virgil B.

I have them both and IMO it doesn't get any better. The Setters can get hot, and the LaCross cold. Also, the LaCross's are fairly thin and can be punctured pretty easily, but I still like them. Get one size bigger than you normally wear.
