I was wondering if any of my Campfire friends might know where I could send two of my favorite old leather jackets to have the zippers replaced? Thanks...Bill.

Got one replaced in a saddle shop one time, that gal did a fine job, and the replacement was a little bigger and more sturdy than the original.

Do you have a cobbler in town? There was a dude near my old house that sold Redwing shoes and boot, but also repaird them. He was great with heavy duty type zippers too.
He replaced the zipper in my Carharrt bibs one time and it was better than new.
You might want to check for a custom leather place too.
Camp is where you make it.

any competent tailor can do it.

All of our old time cobblers have died out. We still have one old time tailor so I will check with him. I thought someone might know of an online firm that specializes in this. Thanks...Bill.

The problem with replacing zippers in leather is the old needle holes don't close up like cloth does. If the zipper is sewn so the stitching is visible, the new zipper has to be sewn in exactly the same line or it will look terrible. It takes a very steady hand to do it right.

http://www.taylorsleatherwear.com/These guys make the leather jackets we wear at work. They do real quality work and they also repair leather garments, it even lists repairs of family heirlooms and zipper replacement on their website. They're located in Tullahoma TN. You can ship your jacket to them and they'll ship it back when finished, I shipped my work jacket to them for cleaning and refinishing a couple of months ago, came back looking like new.

Taylor's Leather Co. here in the mid state is a big maker of leather jackets for both civilian wear & Govt. LE. They do repair work. They make a very quality product also.

Didn't see your endorsement for Taylors when i posted. They do great work. If you didn't know about the place you'ld drive by it and not even know it's there. It's not large, but they do put out both quanity & quality of leather products.

I went to the local tailor (Korean) and got one put in like new for $30. Later I took the wife's skirts in to get new elastic, and it was $15 each! Also let out 2 slacks. Great problem, wife is losing weight (cancer & all), I seem to be getting what she loses.
