Several yrs ago I found a T/C Scout pistol 50cal in a pawn shop and bought it.
It has the box and the ramrod but no paperwork.
I need load data and a bullet type for it.
How much is it worth today?
Recoil? Safety issues?
It is really nice and free from rust or dents & dings.
Thanks
Coach

They are fun an a great shooter big enought for deer to 100 yards . They have a 1-20 twist on both pistol an rifle

Hey Savage, I don't think the the Scout rifles and carbines are 1:20 twist, only the 50 caliber pistol. Check out this T/C website I accidently found a couple of years ago. I have a .54cal Scout Rifle (not a carbine) and I think it's, arguably, the most beautiful muzzleloader I've ever seen and the Scout pistol is, without a doubt, just as beautiful. My rifle is 1:48, with octagon to round barrel, brass buttplate, and brass forend cap. I think it's kinda rare. I've only seen one other like it and it was in .50cal, not .54cal.

Old Coach, you've got a great pistol. If you get misfires it's because the Scouts were originally designed for black powder with it's lower ignition point, not pyrodex, etc. (I was told this years ago by one the old timers at T/C.) The Scout's unique breech plug/integral nipple reduces the amount of "heat" that gets to the powder. I've never quite completely solved this problem buy I love my rifle anyway. If you want to sell it let me know. Good luck!!
Mike

i always wished i had bought the scout when they came out. i went with the white mtn carbine instead. it's laid a bunch of deer down.

My idea of being organic is taking a dump in the woods.

Savage62, It seems that you, I, and Sam Fadala are all correct. I pulled out my T/C catalogs (I have 'em all) and checked the twists for the Scout. No mention is made concerning the twist rates of the pistols so we'll have to trust the chart. When the Scout was introduced in 1990 (catalog #17) the .50 & .54 carbines were 1:20 twist. In 1994 the .50 carbine was changed to 1:38 and in 1995 the .54 carbine was changed to 1:38. The rifle (1:38) was added to the line in 1996 and also offered in 1997, the last year for the Scout. My rifle has the octagon to round barrel which is 1:48 but 1:48 is not even mentioned in the catalogs. There were also a few non-cataloged Scouts made with full octagon barrels in 1:48. How's that for confusing? I honestly don't think the folks at T/C have accurate information these days. In the pre-S&W days you could call them and get any accurate information you wanted right from the mouth of one of the guys who actually built the guns. Now sometimes you can't even get ANY answer and the answers you get may or may not be accurate. Field Hand mentioned that he has a White Mountain Carbine which may have a twist rate of 1:20 or 1:38, depending on when it was made if it's a .50 caliber. If it's a .45 or .54 it's 1:48. The chart makes no mention of the 1:20 .50 WMC. Please accept my apology for doughting you and Sam. Mike
