I know a 1-8 would be best, but will a 1-9 work for the 105 Amax?

Check out my thread, this is exactly what I'm doing! I'm actually doing fine out of a 1 in 9 1/8th. Push them fast enough, and they'll be totally fine. But, YMMV.

Luck....is the residue of design...

I should be fine until I move back out west then! 30's is about as cold as it gets on the Va coast. When does it start making a difference? 20's, teens? I AM taking notes. Thanks for the reply.

I'm glad you are doing well with yours(sounds like). I gotta get to the range and will read your results when I get back later this evening. I also have another 243Ai in the works. I scored a factory take off 700 Varmint bbl and I'm hoping it will like the 85gr TSX.

It's worked fine so far for me, but like scenar said, you'll see some fluctuations in different temps and atmospheric conditions. And he shoots in the cold more than anyone here. A faster twist would definitely be optimal, but I had to take what I could get.

As for my "normal" hunting conditions, 20-60 degrees(20's just for a couple mornings)usually 30's and 40's, at sea level. 600yds is about the longest range on any of our properties.

It gets pretty darn cold here, and I've had no problems with a 10" twist, so far. I'm thinking that results vary from rifle to rifle, but a 10" twist is certainly walking the razor edge of bullet stability with the 105AM.

Something else to keep in mind is that not all twists come out exactly as advertised, especially when talking Button rifled barrels. The only real way to know is to check the barrel yourself.

Not very fast, as a matter of fact. About 150fps slower than Tanner They're leaving the barrel at 2880fps right now. Accuracy is excellent all the way out to 700 yards, which is as far as I've shot them in the winter. I'm sure my experience is the outlier here, but it's the truth, none-the-less.

Jordan that's about as fast as the H4350 loads I clocked. Is that what you're using?

No, in that load I'm either using IMR4831 or R17. I can't recall which right now.

I've ran them at 3050fps at my 800'ASL at below freezing temps with no issues to 1000yds in a 1-9"tw.

All this talk has got me thinking we need some 243 videos! I'm going to try and get some next time I go shoot.

I just looking fwd to finishing mine and shooting them! I ordered 243 Dies and brass today.
I'll probably be getting the AI finished up at the same time as well. It's a 1-10 twist and I just got a bunch of 85gr TSX's. Now, gotta get some cheapies for fireforming.
Would like to get the loads hashed out before it starts warming up.
