I am interested in doing an audad hunt in west Texas. I would prefer a free range hunt in the hill country. I am particular I guess after at least two bad experiences. I insist that I will have a clean place to eat and sleep or forget it! I am not going. I would prefer a guided hunt.
Do any of you guys have recommended places along with contact numbers or web sites ? I would like to hunt probably in mid-September if that is possible.
Thanks

Hunting free-range aoudad in west Texas is the best-kept secret in fair chase hunting. For spot and stalk sheep hunting in the classic style, I recommend Bubba Glosson of Southwest Trophy Hunts:

I got a 32" ram at 285 yds with my ULA .284 Win.

Look about 10-15 posts down and you should find the one I just posted about my hunt last week. Mulie Mike and TOBYJOETRUBY both do hunts here and would be good people to talk to.

I also HIGHLY recommend Bubba Glosson! He is a great guy and has an awesome camp out in the Davis Mountains. Seriously, it may be one of the most fun sheep hunts going

I also recommend Toby Truby here on 24HR. I have hunted with him and he is a blast to be around. For a nicer camp and a less physically demanding hunt this would be your best bet. Bubba hunts from a tent camp

Thanks, folks for the quick reply. I checked out Bubba's web page but his price is WAY over my head. Will have to do some more looking. Anybody know Toby Joe Ruby or how I can contact him ?

Be sure and talk to Mike as well. We did a DIY but everything was as advertised and I'd have no problem doing another hunt through him.

I hunted the Ft. Davis Mountains a number of years ago and had a great time. Killed a nice ram. Beautiful country and no high fences. It is not the same as hunting bighorn or Stone's but it is fair chase and a real hunt. The weather is pretty damn nice in the dead of winter to. smile

I can't believe how much some of the guys are charging for these hunts now.

I hunted the same area with Real Hunting before Aoudad became well know. A great hunt & this was so long ago the hunt was $750.00. The African PH I hunt with is located close to the Namibia border in SA. His sons were hunting in some nearby mountains & shot a strange animal. Turned out to be a big Aoudad. During the off season the PH hunted a few times in the same area & managed to shoot another big one. Apparently a small herd moved into the rugged mountain area from nearby Namibia. I hunted the same area for Kudu, but never saw an Aoudad.

Any of those rare Carmen Mountain deer out that way? Know of any outfitters who can hunt those?

One of the landowners I lease from in Mexico hunted Carmen Mountain deer with a guy in TX and killed a big deer. I'll ask him who he hunted with. Those hunts have gotten to be pretty expensive

It is a 130" type buck. The man that killed it owns a couple ranches in Sonora and was hunting a ranch in TX with a friend when he killed it. He told me that it would either be the new WR typical or damn close to it

Holy crap !!! A 130 Carmen Mountain whitetail. That's HUGE !!! That sub-specie of deer is somewhat related to Coues' deer and they rarely get above 100 B&C. A 130 buck is monstrous.
