Gave my youngest my late 1960s vintage Rem BDL in 270 (he's got the rifle over his shoulder with his first elk)

So I'll just have to take my 500 Jeffery this year ... smile

You know how many guys around here use the same set-up (sans the scope, more like a 3-9x40).......Hard to beat a good ol ruger m77.....whether it be tang safety or MKII......

Yes. If one wants to stay vogue, we will have to wait and see what the summer releases reveal. One would not want to be seen carrying the same unit he packed last year.

If I make it out elk hunting this fall will take my new Ruger 416 Rigby. grin I understand it is not necessary to use such a large cartridge, but I want to, and at least I'm sure it is big enough. grin

I wanted a 500 jeffery so bad I could taste it, but I bought a 458 lott because the dealer I deal with told me that it would cost me over $1200 more and require a 4 month wait when I inquired, now that I have the 458 lott I think I made the correct decision.
$1308.00 USD 458 LOTT

$3279.00 USD 500 jeffery

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/462515/bertram-reloading-brass-500-jeffery-box-of-20 $135 for 20 cases

vs

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/340526/hornady-reloading-brass-458-lott-box-of-50 $55 for 50 cases

especially since I already own about a dozen .458 cast bullet molds

Thats the same caliber and bullet I set my youngest daughter up with when she was 12. She killed 4 elk and 4 deer with it before going off to school. I used it last year to kill a cow and a mature bull.

Hey Brad:

I love 'em. Great round.

We did go last year and she got a look at one. She was so geeked she applied, got a job and moved to Colorado...

Nary a peep out of our mutual friend...

Best,
tom

Tom, PM Sent.
Where did you end up going? I can understand her moving to CO. I've been here all my life and am still excited about living here. Feel free to drop me a line when you come out to see her, maybe we can have a cup of coffee. Where did she move to?

The current thread about the 8 x 57 reminded me of the 8mm-06 I've got stashed somewhere. I built it many years ago to take elk hunting, but just never got around to it. Wonder if I can find my loading data for it!

Good thread!, Now I have a summer project to get that old 98 shooting again.

I'm gong to amend my earlier post.
I recently picked up a Ruger M77 RSM in .375 H&H. took it to my range last week and after one fouling shot I shot two three shot groups - 3/8" and 7/8" with some 260gr. Nosler partition hand loads that it came with.
Nice "new to me" rifle, new caliber for me, very very accurate, so my old Sako Classic .35 Whelen may just stay home this season.

Hey Brad--will send you a PM about the hunt and the kid after I get these alligators back in the pen.

She took a job in the Fort Morgan area. Her sister is in LA and they appear to be in process of dragging their baby brother "out there" smile

Well, if CCH and I get our cow tags, it will be my Rem700 in 7mmRM... Probably a 175gr Partition over Retumbo... Looking forward to seeing some elk soon, not many here in IL..

Formed from 8x68S brass. IIRC, Ackley talked about turning off the belt on a belted mag case.
