I went to install new XS ghost rings on my Marlin 4570 guide gun and saw that it came with a red thread locker. Does anyone know if this red thread lock has the same harding effect as red locktite. I was told that with red locktite you have to use heat to loosen which I sure wouldn't want to do if I decided to put my original sights back on. My brother told me to play it safe and use blue locktite. I would like to hear from somebody that has used or might know something about this red thread locker that comes with XS ghost rings.

Red Loctite needs 350* to release. I used Blue Loctite on my 1895G when I remounted the front sight base. (it was loose from the factory)
It has stayed on for about 1200 rounds of +P 45-70 ammo. I think Blue Loctite will be ok.

Only a WAG but ...
Loctite is the major manufacturer of thread lock products. Assuming that ... it's more than likely red Loctite which is intended for permanent installations.
I agree with your brother. If you want to be able to remove the sight use blue Loctite ... just to be on the safe side.

One other thought.
If want to find out if it is indeed red Loctite, test it on a scrap bolt or screw and a nut.

I don't know if it is indeed red loctite, but it is almost impossible to remove. I had to drill the filler out of the front sight on a set where someone had used it. I agree with your brother and others, use blue Loctite. It will hold the screws, and is removable if need be. Rick

I've used blue Loctite on several front sights and guns screw and have never had one loosen. Just be sure and degrease everything first.
You will be much happier with blue if you ever decide to remove it. Saves a lot of four letter words.

To loosen small screws with red loctite on them hold a soldering iron on them for about a minute. They'll come right out.
