Yeah one that is capable of taking any game in NA... what are the odds and what a shame to have such a versatile rifle?

So how many have you owned?

Grumpy lil' fugger, ain't cha? grin

It was in fact "tongue in cheek".

Fact is it ain't gonna matter much one way or the other if your flinging 6.5mm 100-140 grainers or 7mm 120-160 grainers.

I have a 280 AI. Like it pleny. Shoots 120BT's under an inch with very little recoil. I've played with 139 Horns a little but haven't quite got a load for them dialed yet. Have a few boxes of 162 Amax and 150BT's and a box of 120TTSX that still need launching.

That said, a 6.5-06 wouldn't hurt my feelings at all. I'll probably go 6-06 when this barrel is toast though.

I have a light weight rig built by Kirby Allen in the 280AI and I really enjoy it. I use it for hunting pronghorn and mule deer, but I would not have an issue taking it on an elk hunt. The reason I went with the 280AI is how easy it is to get brass for it. You can buy Nosler brass all day long, no fire form needed. Good luck with your decision!

If I did another 6.5 bore cartridge...It would be on a 280AI cartridge...so guess it would be called a 6.5 x 280AI...then do one of those Wyatt Box magazines to have the bullet take as little in the boiler room as possible...

addendum:

and I want it to look exactly like Hamr56s' rifle...

that is Cool!!!

I would personally go for the lower recoil. She'll probably shoot the rifle better and power never seems to override shot placement. A sure way to discourage a woman away from shooting is to give her a good hard kicking rifle.

I've got both. Love the 280AI, but the 6.5 is no slouch. Recoil has to be within a pound or two difference. If elk were an every year hunt, I'd get the .280AI. If it's mainly deer and lopes, get the 6.5. Lots of bullet choices for both.
